The move is never named on screen. In “The Fusilli Jerry” (Seinfeld, Season 6, Episode 21), Elaine’s only concrete description is that Jerry’s version ends with a swirl and David Puddy’s version ends with a pinch. That distinction is the whole of what the episode establishes about the move, and it is the detail that answers the question.
How the scene sets up the accusation
The scene takes place at Monk’s. Elaine tells Jerry she has been seeing David Puddy, and then says, “He did the move.” Jerry asks whether she means his move. Elaine confirms it, and Jerry accuses Puddy of taking it. Elaine’s reply is the key line: she compares the two versions rather than explaining the move itself. The transcript of the scene is available at Seinfeld Scripts: The Fusille Jerry, and a second copy that matches the wording appears at IMSDb transcript.
The swirl and the pinch
The only specific detail the dialogue gives is the ending of the move. Elaine says Puddy “uses a pinch at the end instead of the swirl.” Jerry answers that he has also done the pinch, so the scene treats the pinch as a shared element rather than something Puddy invented on his own.
- Jerry’s version: finishes with a swirl, according to Elaine.
- Puddy’s version: finishes with a pinch instead, according to Elaine.
- Who did the pinch first: not settled. Jerry says he has done it too, and the episode does not say more.
What the episode does not specify
The script never describes the mechanics of the move. Viewers who want a step-by-step explanation will not find one in the dialogue, and any anatomical description offered by fans or summaries is interpretation rather than something the episode states. The joke depends on the characters treating the move as a known, named piece of Jerry’s behavior, and the writing keeps it deliberately vague.

The one reaction line that comments on the move comes from Puddy. The official Seinfeld clip description quotes him: “Oh, that ending was so obvious. I could’ve figured that out anyway.” That line reinforces the swirl-versus-pinch point, since Puddy is treating the ending as the difference between the two versions.
