Mumbai Queer Pride’s main march returned on February 3, 2024, after its previous edition in that sequence in early 2019. The event began near August Kranti Maidan and combined celebration with calls for equal rights and safety. The “four-year” description refers to that main march: a separate Mumbai Pride parade was held in January 2023.
When did Mumbai Pride return?
Mumbai Queer Pride organized its march on February 3, 2024. Hindustan Times reported that the main march had last taken place in early 2019. Organizers described the break as connected to the pandemic and difficulties securing police permissions. Hindustan Times’ report covers the return and its background.
The four-year framing needs a distinction: Color Positive Foundation announced a separate Mumbai Pride parade in Bandra on January 28, 2023. It began near Carter Road’s Otters Club side and ended at the Carter Road Amphitheater. That event does not change the timeline of the main Mumbai Queer Pride march, but it means the 2024 return should not be described as the first Mumbai pride parade since 2019. Color Positive Foundation’s announcement gives the 2023 event details.
Where did the 2024 march go?
The march started near August Kranti Maidan in Tardeo at 3 p.m. Its reported route passed Nana Chowk, Lamington Road, Opera House and Kennedy Bridge, then returned to the starting area. The Times of India’s coverage also describes the route and the march’s atmosphere.

What did the march demand?
Mumbai Queer Pride presented the march as both a celebration of LGBTQIA+ diversity and resilience and a call for action. Its January 3, 2024 press release set out demands including marriage equality and adoption rights for queer people, effective protections against discrimination and violence, and functional welfare boards and councils for transgender people. It also called for an end to stigma against people living with HIV and better access to health care, education, employment and housing. The organizers’ press release outlines those priorities.
These demands place the march in a broader struggle for equal treatment in everyday life and public institutions. The Times of India reported that participants also included groups working on intersecting causes, including deaf-community and animal-rights organizations. It noted that the march quieted in designated silent zones to honor people who had died because of queer phobia.

The coverage also mentions workshops, public activities and a queer history walk; these are reported examples, not a complete official calendar.
In the same report, Sudhanshu Latad, advocacy manager for The Humsafar Trust and part of its youth initiative Yaariyan, said the events aimed to increase community visibility, prompt awareness and discussion, and foster safe spaces. The February 2024 march brought the main Mumbai Queer Pride event back to the streets after a prolonged pause, while making clear that visibility alone was not its only purpose. Its public celebration sat alongside specific demands for legal equality, safety, transgender welfare and access to essential services. The separate 2023 Bandra parade is an important part of the city’s recent pride history, but it was organized independently and followed a different route.
