The trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert promotes more than a newly cut concert reel: the film brings together footage from Elvis Presley’s 1970s Las Vegas residency, rare 16mm material connected to Elvis on Tour, 8mm film from the Graceland archive and rediscovered recordings of Elvis speaking about his life. The official trailer calls it “long-lost footage”; that phrase describes part of the archive, not a guarantee that every shot shown is previously unseen.
What rare footage is in the trailer?
The official Universal Pictures UK trailer, published January 13, 2026, describes the material as “long-lost footage discovered by Academy Award-nominated Baz Luhrmann.” Sony’s December 4, 2025 announcement provides the more specific categories:
- Footage connected to Elvis’s Las Vegas residency in the 1970s.
- Rare 16mm material from Elvis on Tour.
- Treasured 8mm footage from the Graceland archive.
- Rediscovered recordings of Elvis speaking about his life and telling “his side of the story.”
Sony’s descriptions identify the sources and formats, but do not provide a shot-by-shot inventory of the trailer. They also do not establish that every frame is unseen; some footage is rare or newly restored rather than necessarily never shown before.
Where did the footage and recordings come from?
In a January 8, 2026 announcement, Sony Music Canada said Luhrmann and his team found long-hidden negatives and footage in Warner Bros. vaults while working on the 2022 film Elvis. The material had been captured for two earlier projects:

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Elvis: That’s the Way It Is, chronicling the August 1970 Las Vegas residency.
- Elvis On Tour, filmed across U.S. concerts in 1972.
The team also located unseen 8mm material and unheard audio of Elvis discussing his life. Sony says the restoration involved editor Jonathan Redmond and Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production, among others. The film draws on these different sources rather than representing a single newly discovered concert recording.
Why is it described as both a concert film and a documentary?
EPiC is concert-focused, but its archival range includes more than stage performance: the film also uses personal 8mm material and Elvis’s spoken reflections. That combination gives the project documentary context while keeping the concert experience central.

In a June 1, 2026 Paramount announcement, Luhrmann said: “The aim was to reveal Elvis in his prime, as if you were actually there.” He also described the ambition behind its form: “Jonathan Redmond and I set out to make something that was more than a documentary and more than a concert film and what we found along the way was simply EPiC.” These are the director’s descriptions of the project, not a claim that it follows a conventional documentary format.
When and where can you watch the film?
The trailer and Sony’s December 4, 2025 announcement advertised a one-week IMAX engagement beginning February 20, 2026, followed by a broad theatrical opening on February 27. Those are announced release dates, not a guarantee of current showtimes.
