Toxicology reportedly measured Christopher’s blood-alcohol concentration at 0.327 percent, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner report in 2024. The account also says no drugs or medications were detected.

Did Tyler Christopher die from a heart attack?
The official cause reported by the medical examiner was positional asphyxia due to acute alcohol intoxication, not a heart attack. Christopher’s coronary artery atherosclerosis was listed as a contributing condition, rather than the primary cause.
When Christopher’s death was first announced, his former General Hospital co-star Maurice Benard described it as following a “cardiac event” in Christopher’s San Diego apartment. That was an initial description; the later medical-examiner finding specified the cause and manner.

Who was Tyler Christopher?
Christopher was best known for playing Nikolas Cassadine on ABC’s General Hospital and Stefan DiMera on Days of Our Lives. In his announcement of Christopher’s death, Benard praised his talent and recalled that he spoke openly about bipolar depression and alcohol, and advocated for better mental-health and substance-use treatment.
