If a Twitch password reset is not working, first confirm the account’s username and registered email or phone number. Request one reset, wait several minutes, and check spam before trying another link. If the password changes but you still cannot sign in, troubleshoot two-factor authentication (2FA) separately: a password reset does not necessarily bypass it.
First, identify what is failing
- No reset email or SMS: Check that you entered the right account details, then inspect spam and message filters.
- The link will not open or returns to login: Use the newest reset email and try a private browser window.
- The new password is rejected: Check the username, capitalization, keyboard layout, and whether you are signing into the right account.
- Twitch asks for a code: The password reset may have succeeded; you still need to complete the separate 2FA or security check.
Start at Twitch’s account-recovery page. Twitch’s account-access guide says reset messages may take a few minutes to arrive; it does not promise a universal delivery time.
1. Confirm you are recovering the right account
If you have more than one Twitch account, an email or phone number you remember may not belong to the account you are trying to recover. On the account-recovery page, enter the associated email or phone number, select Continue, then choose I Don’t Know My Username if prompted. Check the message Twitch sends for usernames linked to that contact detail, then use the right username in the reset flow.

2. Search spam and email filters
Twitch recommends checking spam or junk if its reset email does not appear. Search your mailbox for Twitch, password reset, and sender addresses such as [email protected] and [email protected]. Check Promotions and any custom folders or filtering rules too.
If you find a Twitch message in spam, mark it as Not Spam, move it to your inbox, and add Twitch’s sender addresses to your provider’s safe-sender list. Request a fresh reset after that rather than relying on an older message.
3. Wait, then use the newest reset link
After submitting one reset request, give the message several minutes to arrive. Repeated requests can leave you with several emails, and older links can cause confusion. If you request another reset, use the newest email and ignore the earlier ones. Twitch does not state a universal link-expiration period in the cited account-access guidance, so do not rely on an old message if you have requested a fresh one.

4. Use the registered email or an eligible phone number
Twitch sends a reset email to the verified email address associated with the account. If that mailbox has been disabled, it cannot receive Twitch messages; reactivate it if possible or try another recovery method tied to the account. If you cannot access the registered email or phone, the recovery options may be limited and you may need Twitch Support.

Where phone recovery is offered, enter the correct country code and use an active cellular number that can receive SMS. Twitch says VoIP numbers, including Google Voice and Skype, are not supported for SMS verification. Check blocked-message or spam folders and allow for carrier delays before requesting another code. If a number is already linked to another Twitch account, use the recovery tool or see Twitch’s phone-number guidance rather than creating another account.
5. Address blocked Twitch email delivery
If you can still access your Twitch settings and are having trouble receiving verification email, Twitch’s account-access guide describes a workaround: open Settings, enter a temporary email address in the email field, and select Save. Refresh the page or leave and return to Settings, replace it with your actual address, and save again. Add Twitch’s sender addresses to your email provider’s safe-sender list as well.
This procedure is aimed at email-verification delivery and requires access to Settings. It is not a guaranteed fix for a missing password-reset email, and it will not help if you are completely locked out.

If an email arrives but its link fails or sends you back to login, open the link directly from the newest message. As practical browser troubleshooting—not a Twitch-guaranteed fix—try a private or incognito window, another current browser, or another device. If the page keeps looping, clear Twitch site data or temporarily disable extensions that may interfere with cookies, scripts, or redirects. Avoid repeatedly submitting the reset form while testing.
7. Check whether you signed in through Google, Apple, or Amazon
Some Twitch accounts use Google, Apple, or Amazon sign-in and may not have a conventional Twitch password. Try the same provider account you originally used, and make sure you are signed in to the correct Google, Apple, or Amazon account. If you need a separate Twitch password, follow the account-recovery flow; Twitch explains the distinction in its account-creation guidance.
Do not create a new Twitch account as a substitute for recovering the old one. A new account does not restore the original follows, subscriptions, creator status, or linked services, and it can make it harder to identify the account you need.

If Twitch accepts the new password but asks for a code, identify which check it is requesting: email, SMS, an authenticator app, a backup code, or a new-device/location verification. Enter the current code from your authenticator app, use a saved backup code, or check the linked email and phone. Use Resend code where it is offered, and see Twitch’s guidance for missing SMS and 2FA codes.

Twitch says an Authy account is created automatically when Twitch 2FA is enabled, even if you use another authenticator app; its phone-change process applies to Twitch 2FA users and may take 24–48 business hours. An authenticator app can avoid dependence on cellular service, but losing the device without backup codes or another recovery option can make access difficult.

When to contact Twitch Support
Use the official Twitch Support form if the reset repeatedly fails, you have lost access to both recovery channels, your email account is disabled and cannot be restored, you cannot complete 2FA recovery, or you suspect someone changed your account details. Support is the official escalation route, not a guarantee that an account can be restored.
Include your Twitch username, a response email you can access, the relevant phone number if applicable, and a clear description of what happens at each step. Use only Twitch’s official support site; do not share reset links, passwords, or 2FA codes with anyone claiming they can recover the account.
After you regain access
Confirm you are in the intended account, verify the contact information, and review its security settings. Twitch says changing a password invalidates the stream key and revokes credentials issued to third-party services, so streamers may need to generate a new key and reconnect affected services, including accounts used for Drops. Review suspicious activity, enable 2FA if appropriate, and store backup codes securely. If you suspect unauthorized access, contact Twitch Support promptly and follow its password-change and security guidance.
