If Twitch notifications are missing, first work out where they are missing: a single channel, every channel on one device, or one delivery route such as push or email. Twitch has separate channel, account, browser, and operating-system controls—and Smart Delivery may send an alert to one destination rather than duplicate it everywhere. Start with the channel bell and Twitch’s notification settings, then check the device that should have shown the alert.
This guide reflects Twitch’s current terminology as of September 2026. Older guides may call Smart Delivery “Smart Notifications”; Twitch renamed the feature in December 2025 without changing its function.
Quick diagnosis: what is missing?

For a controlled test, choose one followed channel you know is live or can check during a stream. Make one change at a time and compare the same Twitch account across devices; otherwise it is easy to confuse an account setting with a device-specific problem.
1. Check the channel’s notification setting
Following a streamer does not necessarily mean Twitch will send every type of alert for that channel. Open the streamer’s channel and select the notification bell near the Follow or Subscribe controls. If available, choose:

- Always if you want the channel’s notifications without Twitch personalizing them down.
- Go Live Only if you only want stream-start alerts.
- Personalized if you prefer fewer alerts and accept that Twitch may reduce alerts based on your activity.
Labels and availability can vary by account, platform, language, and interface rollout. If your menu shows a simpler on/off choice, enable live notifications. You can also open Twitch notification settings, find channel notification management, and change a channel from Personalized to Always where that option appears. Confirm you are signed into the account that follows the streamer. Test one channel before changing preferences for all of them.
2. Check Twitch’s account-level delivery settings
Go to twitch.tv/settings/notifications. Twitch treats on-site, mobile push, email, and desktop/web notifications as separate delivery paths. Look for the relevant sections—often Channels You Follow, Mobile, Email, and Desktop/Web—and enable the live or “Go Live” alert type you actually want. Social, streamer, or moderator categories are separate and matter only for those kinds of alerts. Names may vary by account and localization.
If a category is already on but appears stuck, reset only that category: turn it off, leave or save the page, then turn it on again. Repeat separately for the delivery route that is failing. This is a reset attempt, not a guaranteed fix.

Understand Smart Delivery before troubleshooting devices
Smart Delivery chooses a destination based on where Twitch considers you active. For example, when you are using Twitch, the alert may appear on-site; when you are away, Twitch may use mobile push or email. It is not a promise to send the same event through every enabled route. Thus, email arriving while a phone alert does not—or an on-site alert appearing without a banner—can be expected routing rather than a broken notification.
For testing, find Smart Delivery (older guides may call it Smart Notifications) on the notification settings page and temporarily turn it off. Enable the routes you want to test. This can make delivery across routes more predictable, but may produce duplicate alerts. Turn it back on if avoiding duplicates matters more than choosing every destination. Twitch announced the name change in December 2025; the routing behavior remained the same.
3. Fix missing Twitch alerts on a PC
Allow notifications in the browser
A Twitch setting cannot override a browser’s site permission. In Chrome, go to Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Notifications, then make sure Twitch is allowed. You can also open Twitch and use the site-information control beside the address bar to inspect its notification permission. If Twitch is blocked, remove the block and allow notifications again. Reload Twitch and sign in.
Chrome can suppress permission prompts, remove permissions for sites you have not used recently, or withhold notifications in private browsing. Do the final test in a normal window, not Incognito. Chrome’s current instructions are at Google’s notification-permission help page.

In Firefox, Edge, Brave, and other browsers, use the browser’s site-permission settings to find Twitch, set notifications to Allow, remove any Block rule, and restart the browser. Labels differ; do not assume every browser has identical controls.
Check Windows banners and Do Not Disturb
On Windows 10 or 11, open Start > Settings > System > Notifications. Turn on notifications generally and for the browser you use. Check that banners and notification-center alerts are enabled if you expect a pop-up.
Then check Do not disturb (called Focus Assist on some older Windows interfaces) and its automatic rules. Windows may suppress banners during a schedule, a Focus session, display duplication, a full-screen app, or a game. Exit the game and check notification history before concluding Twitch never delivered the alert. Microsoft explains these controls in its Windows notifications guide. Windows 10 support ended October 14, 2025; menu availability and support status differ from Windows 11.
On macOS, also check System Settings > Notifications for your browser and review any active Focus mode. macOS versions can differ in labels and layout.
Isolate extensions, cookies, and stale sessions
- As a comparison, open Twitch in a private window. If its controls work there but not in your normal session, an extension or stale site data may be interfering. Do not use the private window for the final notification test.
- In the normal window, temporarily disable extensions—especially ad blockers, privacy/security tools, BTTV, FrankerFaceZ, and Twitch-enhancement add-ons—then reload Twitch.
- If needed, log out and clear only Twitch’s site data and cookies, close and reopen the browser, sign in, and grant notification permission again if prompted. Clearing all browser data is more disruptive and usually unnecessary as a first step.
- Try another browser. If Twitch alerts work there, the account is probably generating them and the problem is more likely in the original browser’s permission, extensions, or local data.
For Chromium-based browsers, chrome://settings/content/notifications opens Chrome notification controls and chrome://settings/content/all opens its site-data controls. These are browser settings addresses, not Twitch commands, and do not apply to Firefox or Safari.

4. Fix missing Twitch alerts on Android
- Open the phone’s Settings > Notifications > App notifications (or the equivalent), select Twitch, and allow notifications. Turn on the live-stream category if Android lists categories separately.
- In Twitch’s own notification settings, confirm mobile alerts and the relevant channel/live category are enabled.
- If alerts are late or arrive only while Twitch is open, check the phone’s battery settings for Twitch. Where available, allow unrestricted background use or exclude Twitch from battery optimization. Check background data and Data Saver as well.
- Temporarily disable Battery Saver or Data Saver, confirm the phone has a working connection, then force-stop and reopen Twitch.
- Sign out and back in, update Twitch in Google Play, and retest. Reinstall only if the less disruptive steps fail.
Android menus and battery controls vary among Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, OnePlus, Motorola, Xiaomi, and other devices, as well as Android versions. Twitch push requires both Twitch’s in-app setting and permission from the operating system; allowing one does not automatically enable the other. Avoid assuming battery optimization affects every phone identically.

- Open Settings > Notifications > Twitch and turn on Allow Notifications. Select the delivery locations you want: Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners; enable sounds if you expect an audible alert.
- Open Settings > Focus. Check each Focus mode that might be active and allow Twitch or temporarily disable the mode for a test.
- Check Scheduled Summary in notification settings. If Twitch is included, its alerts can be held for the summary instead of appearing promptly; remove it if you need immediate alerts.
- Confirm mobile notifications are enabled inside Twitch, then force-close and reopen the app. Sign out and back in, update Twitch, and reinstall only if settings remain stuck.
Focus can filter notifications and Scheduled Summary can delay them; either can make a valid Twitch alert seem lost. Apple describes these behaviors in its notification guidance and iPhone user guide.
6. Fix missing Twitch email notifications
- In Twitch’s security and privacy settings, confirm the email address on the account is correct and verified. Twitch requires a verified email address for email notifications.
- On the notification settings page, enable the email route and the relevant channel/live category.
- Check Spam, Junk, Promotions, Social, and other filtered folders; search your mailbox for Twitch. If appropriate, add Twitch’s sender or domain to your provider’s safe-sender list.
- Temporarily turn off Smart Delivery if you want to test email while using Twitch elsewhere. A missing email alone does not prove Twitch failed to create an alert: routing and mail-provider filtering can intervene.
7. Check for a Twitch service issue
Before resetting an app or making broad changes, visit Twitch Status and look for incidents involving notifications, login, the website, mobile apps, or APIs. Video and chat can work while another service component is affected. If several channels fail across multiple devices and networks, and Twitch lists an incident, wait for recovery and retest before clearing data or reinstalling.

- One channel only: likely channel preference, follow state, or a channel-specific issue.
- Every channel on one device: likely that device’s app, browser, or OS settings.
- One route only: check the corresponding push, email, or browser permission and Smart Delivery.
- Several devices and routes at once: check Twitch Status and account settings before local troubleshooting.
Choose settings that match how you watch
- I never want to miss a stream: choose Always where offered, enable mobile push, and consider turning Smart Delivery off if duplicate alerts are acceptable.
- I only want stream-start alerts: choose Go Live Only where offered.
- I want fewer alerts: use Personalized, knowing Twitch may reduce notifications based on activity.
- I watch Twitch on desktop all day: on-site or desktop alerts may be more useful than email or phone push; still check Windows/macOS suppression.
No route guarantees instant delivery. Twitch routing, network conditions, operating-system controls, and mail providers can all affect timing.
When to contact Twitch Support
Contact Twitch Support if settings cannot be saved or keep reverting, you receive notifications for channels you do not expect, or no route works across multiple devices and networks after any service incident clears. Include the affected channel(s), delivery route, device and OS/browser version, whether other routes work, and what you have already checked. Do not send your password or verification codes. Avoid unofficial “Twitch alert” tools that request account access; they add security and reliability risks without fixing Twitch’s own delivery settings.
