If your Twitch banner is missing, first check where you expect it to appear. Twitch has separate settings for the profile banner at the top of your channel and the video-player banner associated with an offline channel. Uploading one does not make it appear in the other location.
Identify which Twitch image is missing

Twitch documents these as separate channel-page features. Start with its current Channel Page Setup instructions rather than an old guide that tells you to edit the image from your public channel page.
Fix a profile banner that is not showing
- Sign in to Twitch and open your profile menu.
- Select Creator Dashboard, then go to Settings → Channel → Brand.
- Find Profile Banner and select Update.
- Choose the image and complete any save or confirmation step Twitch shows.
- Open your public channel page in a separate tab to check the result.
Twitch recommends a 1200 × 480 pixel profile banner. Its account-settings help documentation lists JPEG, PNG, or GIF formats and a 10 MB maximum for profile banners; requirements can vary by image field, so do not assume that limit applies to every Twitch graphic. See the Twitch account-settings documentation for those file details.
A banner can be set correctly yet appear blank or wrong because the page scales it to fit the viewer’s browser. Twitch notes that the layout is responsive. Keep the logo and essential text toward the left, avoid putting important details at the extreme edges, and check the result at more than one window width. A 1200 × 480 canvas is a recommendation, not a promise that every pixel will be visible on every screen.
Fix an offline video-player banner
The Video Player Banner is a different setting from the Profile Banner. If you want an image inside the player when your channel is offline, return to Creator Dashboard → Settings → Channel → Brand and check the Video Player Banner field specifically. Twitch says this banner is associated with the offline player and that animated video-player banners are not natively supported, so use a static image for this purpose.
- Confirm your channel is actually offline.
- Check that the image is set under Video Player Banner, not Profile Banner.
- Save the setting and check the normal public Twitch channel page in a private window or while logged out.
- If you are testing an embed, first confirm what appears on the normal channel page. An embed is a separate viewing context and may not render offline imagery the same way.
The offline page may also feature a trailer, videos, schedules, panels, or suggested channels. A trailer is not a banner; Twitch currently limits channel trailers to Affiliates and Partners. Do not infer that profile-banner eligibility has the same restriction.
Work through these checks if the image still looks missing
- Check the field. Confirm that you changed the banner type for the location you are inspecting.
- Confirm the upload completed. Reopen the Brand tab and see whether the new image remains selected. If Twitch returned an error or reverted to the old image, try a newly exported JPEG or PNG at 1200 × 480 and a smaller file.
- Check the public view. Open your channel in a private or incognito window, or log out. This helps distinguish your signed-in dashboard from the public page, though it cannot prove that Twitch has finished updating every view.
- Refresh and compare. Hard-refresh the page, then try another browser, device, or network. Temporarily disabling browser extensions can help rule out local interference.
- Check the crop and contrast. Look at both desktop and mobile widths. A dark or low-contrast image may blend into the page; important content near an edge may be outside the visible area at some sizes.
- Test the right surface. Check the regular Twitch channel page before diagnosing an embedded player or another Twitch surface.
- Check for a broader incident. If multiple Twitch assets or pages are failing, consult Twitch Status. A healthy status does not rule out a channel-specific upload or rendering problem.
These are practical troubleshooting steps, not guarantees about a fixed update time. Twitch does not promise a universal number of minutes for a banner change to appear everywhere. If a valid, standard image will not upload across browsers and devices, or the saved image remains absent in public views after those checks, contact Twitch Support with the channel URL, the banner type, and what you have already tested.
Why a banner may show on desktop but not mobile
Twitch adjusts its channel layout to the screen, so the visible portion and scale of a banner can differ between desktop and mobile. That does not necessarily mean the upload failed. Preview both layouts where possible, use the recommended 1200 × 480 dimensions for a profile banner, and keep critical artwork toward the left rather than relying on content at the far edges.
Why Twitch still shows the old banner
An already-open page or browser cache may continue to show an earlier image after you make a change. Hard-refresh, then check in a private window, while logged out, or in another browser. If the dashboard shows the new image but public views do not, compare another device and allow some time before concluding that the upload failed. There is no documented fixed propagation window to rely on.

Older Twitch material may refer to a channel “Cover Image” and describe a different editing flow. Twitch’s current help page uses “Profile Banner” and directs creators to the Brand tab in Creator Dashboard. Historical developer-forum reports also describe offline-image issues in embeds, but those reports are not proof of current or universal behavior: offline image report and embed banner report.
