ABC News Studios’ three-part Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari premiered on Hulu on July 21, 2025. Directed by Dani Sloane, it was produced with XTR and Rolling Stone Films and is based on Matt Sullivan’s Rolling Stone article, “Before the Dentist Knows You’re Dead.” ABC says the series features interviews with Lawrence Rudolph and Lori Milliron from federal prison, alongside investigators and others connected to the case. Those production details are distinct from the court record: a federal jury convicted Rudolph of murder and mail fraud in 2022, and the Tenth Circuit affirmed his conviction and forfeiture order in a 2025 appeal.
What is Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari?
ABC News Studios announced the three-part docuseries on June 27, 2025, and named Hulu as its original U.S. streaming home. The series follows Bianca Rudolph’s death during an African hunting trip and the criminal case against her husband, Lawrence Rudolph. ABC described it as an “adrenaline-pumping, three-part series”—the network’s promotional characterization, not an independent assessment. ABC News Studios’ announcement and series information provide the network’s stated framing and release details.
Who made the series?
ABC’s production credits identify XTR in association with Rolling Stone Films and ABC News Studios for Hulu. The named roles are:
- Director and executive producer: Dani Sloane.
- Executive producer: Erin Lee Carr.
- Producer: Kaley Roberts.
- XTR executive producers: Matthew Cherchio, Kathleen Flood, Justin Lacob, and Bryn Mooser.
- Rolling Stone Films executive producers: Jason Fine, Gus Wenner, and Alexandra Dale.
- ABC News Studios executive producers: Claire Weinraub and David Sloan.
- Also credited as an executive producer: Matt Sullivan, whose Rolling Stone reporting is the stated basis for the series.
ABC7 also interviewed Sloane about the production and noted the interviews with Rudolph and Milliron from federal prison. That reporting offers some production context, but the available account does not establish the series’ budget, a complete description of its filming methods, or the editorial decisions behind individual scenes. How does Matt Sullivan’s reporting relate to the series?
ABC identifies Sullivan’s Rolling Stone article, “Before the Dentist Knows You’re Dead,” as the series’ basis and credits him as an executive producer. That establishes a stated source relationship and production credit; it does not, by itself, show precisely how each article detail or reporting decision appears in the episodes.
For readers assessing the series’ approach, the useful questions are whether it explains its reliance on the article, how it handles access to interviewees, and how clearly it distinguishes the program’s dramatic questions from findings made in court. These are ways to evaluate the series, not claims that it is accurate or inaccurate.

What did the jury and courts decide?
The program’s title and safari setting provide a dramatic frame; the legal outcomes are more specific. The U.S. Department of Justice reports that a federal jury convicted Lawrence Rudolph in August 2022 of murdering Bianca Rudolph and defrauding life-insurance companies. The jury convicted Lori Milliron of accessory after the fact, obstruction, and two perjury counts, while acquitting her of three other perjury counts. The Justice Department’s 2022 verdict announcement.
According to DOJ’s account of trial evidence, Bianca was shot in Zambia on October 11, 2016. Rudolph claimed a total of $4,877,744.93 in proceeds from nine life-insurance policies issued by seven companies. The proceeds figure describes the claims reported by DOJ; it is not a separate measure of the series’ production or a general estimate of the case’s financial impact.
