Sony titled it Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set its U.S. theatrical release for July 31, 2026, and lists it as available through digital retailers from October 6, 2026. The film follows Peter Parker after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The release date changed during development. An Associated Press report in October 2024 gave an earlier plan of July 24, 2026; Sony’s current film listing and its investor materials give July 31, 2026. The earlier date was superseded. AP’s 2024 report is useful as a record of the former plan, not the current date.
When does the story take place?
Sony says the story is set four years after No Way Home. Peter’s identity has been erased from the world’s memories, leaving MJ and Ned to move on without remembering their former friend. Peter has devoted himself to fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man.

Sony’s official premise also describes a transformation Peter may not be able to control, alongside a new threat. The studio’s description connects the change to Peter’s isolation and his work as Spider-Man, but does not establish further plot details or confirm speculative villain identities.

Destin Daniel Cretton directs the film, with Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers writing. Sony’s listed cast includes:

Sony lists July 31, 2026 as the U.S. general theatrical release date. Its film page says the movie became available through digital retailers on October 6, 2026, including Apple TV, Prime Video, Fandango, and Sony Pictures Core. Retailer and territory availability can vary, so check the relevant service for your location. Sony’s film page provides the current listed home-viewing options.

Sony says 4K HDR playback requires a 4K UHD television with HDR, an Ultra HD Blu-ray player, and high-speed HDMI 2.0A cables. That equipment requirement does not confirm that a physical Ultra HD Blu-ray edition of the film is available; Sony’s listed home options are digital retailers.

In a post dated August 4, 2026, Sony Group reported a $360 million domestic opening weekend and a $932 million global opening weekend. Sony described the domestic result as the biggest domestic opening weekend of all time. These are the studio’s own reported figures and characterization, not an independently reconciled box-office ranking. Sony Group’s 2026 investor materials contain the figures and the July 31 release listing.

During a video message to CinemaCon exhibitors in April 2026, Holland called the film “the most emotional Spider-Man movie yet” and “the most grown-up,” according to the Associated Press.
