Those Who Wish Me Dead is a 2021 action thriller directed by Taylor Sheridan. Angelina Jolie stars as Hannah Faber, a smoke jumper drawn into the fight to protect a traumatized 12-year-old boy while danger closes in and a wildfire threatens their wilderness route.
What is Those Who Wish Me Dead about?
Hannah Faber is a smoke jumper still affected by three lives she failed to save in a fire. When she encounters Connor Casserly, a traumatized 12-year-old boy, she becomes involved in his effort to survive. The story brings two dangers together: people hunting the boy and a wildfire in the wilderness where he and Hannah are trying to get through.
The setup makes the fire more than a backdrop: it complicates the characters’ attempt to escape the human threat. The film is a survival thriller, not a documentary or a real-world guide to wildfire safety.

Is Those Who Wish Me Dead based on a book?
Yes. The film adapts Michael Koryta’s novel Those Who Wish Me Dead, published by Little, Brown and Company on June 3, 2014. The book and movie have different details: for example, Hachette’s book description names the threatened boy Jace Wilson, while the film listing identifies him as Connor Casserly. The novel is source material, not an identical, scene-by-scene companion to the film.
Hachette lists ebook, unabridged audiobook download and trade paperback formats. The paperback’s ISBN is 9780316279963. See the publisher’s book page for format details and retailer options; stock can vary.
