Road House was the No. 1 movie and Shōgun the No. 1 show in Google TV’s “Best of 2024” collection. Google published the collection on November 21, 2024, and the rankings were described as reflecting activity on Google TV—not total viewing across all streaming services. The lists are best read as a late-2024 snapshot, not a confirmed year-end industry chart.
Google said its “Best of 2024” collection was available on Google TV devices and in the Google TV app. Its announcement identified Road House as the most-watched 2024 movie and Shōgun as the most-watched 2024 show. Google’s announcement confirms those top picks; the full rankings below were reported from the collection by 9to5Google.
Important context: The contemporary report said Google’s results were based on “watch clicks” through the Google TV homescreen. That is not the same as a count of completed viewing, total hours watched, unique viewers, box-office sales, or an industry-wide streaming ranking. Google’s public announcement does not give raw totals or a detailed geographic methodology. Since the collection appeared on November 21, 2024, treat it as a late-year snapshot; the available information does not establish that it was finalized after the year ended.

Google TV’s 25 most-watched movies of 2024
The movie ranking spans streaming-prominent titles and theatrical releases. Road House led the list, despite being a streaming release rather than a conventional theatrical blockbuster—a reminder that this is a Google TV discovery ranking, not a box-office chart. The list also includes the documentary-style nonfiction title TMZ Presents: The Downfall of Diddy, which Google’s collection placed among movies.

Google TV’s 23 most-watched shows of 2024
Shōgun was the top-ranked show. Unlike a list of series that premiered in 2024, this ranking includes older and continuing programs as well as newer releases. For example, Bluey, SpongeBob SquarePants, Yellowstone, Saturday Night Live, and 9-1-1 all appear.

The shows range from premium dramas and fantasy to broadcast series, reality TV, documentaries, and animation. “Of 2024” describes the year of the viewing list, not necessarily the year a program began. As with the movie chart, the rankings do not explain why a title placed where it did.
How to interpret the rankings
- Clicks are not viewing hours. The reported measure is watch clicks from the Google TV homescreen. A click indicates an interaction, but the published information does not show whether someone finished an episode or film, or how long they watched.
- This is not a universal popularity chart. The list reflects activity through Google TV’s interface. It should not be treated as equivalent to Nielsen ratings, Netflix engagement figures, worldwide streaming totals, or theatrical box office. Different services have different audiences, catalogues, and measurement windows.
- The scope is not fully specified. The public material does not provide a detailed geographic scope, denominator, raw counts, or a complete methodology. Do not assume the results represent every country or every streaming service.
- The year-end boundary matters. The collection launched November 21, and contemporary coverage described the titles as watched so far in 2024. The rankings therefore should not be presented as a confirmed final tally through December 31.
- Availability changes. The list is a historical snapshot, not a current watch guide. Streaming rights and catalogues vary by country and change over time, so check a title’s current availability in your region before subscribing or renting.

Google separately named ION Television its most-watched free live channel of 2024. Its announcement also highlighted more than 150 free live TV channels on Google TV, available without downloads or subscriptions, and staff picks including Challengers, the new season of Hacks, and Dune: Part Two. These are separate categories, not additions to the movie or show rankings.
