Spoilers for Season 3, Episode 4, “Hide or Seek.” Rick finally explains why he wants to go to Bangkok: he believes Jim Hollinger is responsible for his father’s death or disappearance. Chelsea’s joking Princess Bride allusion—“Is this a bit ‘You killed my father, prepare to die’?”—lands as more than a gag. She hears the threat in Rick’s plan even as he describes it as a chance to confront Hollinger.

What happens in “Hide or Seek”?

Episode 4 brings Rick’s grievance into the open, deepens Timothy Ratliff’s private crisis, and lets a seemingly light excursion turn uneasy. The episode’s tension comes from the way these threads brush against one another: characters offer explanations, but none of the most consequential questions is settled.

Rick gives Chelsea a reason for Bangkok

Rick tells Chelsea that his mother said Jim Hollinger killed his father or caused him to disappear. That is Rick’s account of what he was told, not independently confirmed fact. He says he plans to go to Bangkok and face Hollinger, telling him how he believes Hollinger ruined his life.

Chelsea asks whether this is a “You killed my father, prepare to die” bit, invoking The Princess Bride. The joke makes the danger legible without proving Rick intends to hurt anyone. His stated aim is confrontation; Chelsea’s reaction suggests she is not sure that distinction will hold.

Timothy’s crisis becomes harder to hide

Timothy’s legal and financial problems continue to close in. He drinks, grows visibly anxious, and uses medication belonging to his wife. His polished public manner sits increasingly uneasily beside the panic and self-medication he keeps private.

A gun links the resort’s danger to Timothy

The episode introduces a gun connected to hotel security guard Gaitok, then ties its absence to Timothy’s distressed state. That connection turns the weapon into a suspense device: it brings the season’s opening shooting closer to the characters’ immediate lives, but “Hide or Seek” does not identify who will use it in that shooting.

The women leave the resort

The three women venture out from the resort and encounter Songkran water celebrations. The outing shifts the episode’s register from private dread to public, messy comedy, while the water fight’s physicality keeps the mood from becoming entirely carefree. Forbes reads the festival clues as placing the events between April 13 and April 15; that is an interpretation of the episode’s clues, not a production-confirmed timestamp.

Belinda’s suspicions grow

Belinda looks up information about Tanya’s death and becomes suspicious of Greg, now going by Gary. Her son Zion is expected to arrive, but his anticipated arrival and Belinda’s discovery do not resolve the larger mystery. They widen it.

Why the episode’s tension works

Rick’s motive is clearer than his intentions

Rick’s story gives his trip a concrete emotional motive, but the episode carefully keeps the underlying accusation at one remove: it is what he says his mother told him. That gap matters. The audience can understand why he is fixated on Hollinger without being asked to treat his version as established truth. Chelsea’s joke punctures his controlled explanation and gives voice to the possibility that a planned conversation could become something more dangerous.

Timothy’s composure is another kind of performance

Rick speaks openly about an old wound; Timothy’s crisis is visible mostly through behavior he struggles to contain. The contrast gives the episode two different forms of menace: a grievance aimed outward and a collapse happening inward. The gun makes that parallel especially uncomfortable, though the episode stops short of turning suspicion into an answer.

Comedy keeps colliding with threat

The women’s Songkran outing offers a change of scenery and comic social discomfort, but the episode does not use it to erase the tension elsewhere. That tonal movement is characteristic of the series at its sharpest: a scene can be funny and awkward while the surrounding story keeps danger in view.

Suspicion is not proof

Belinda’s search gives her a reason to doubt Greg/Gary, not a complete account of what happened to Tanya. The distinction mirrors Rick’s story: both characters are acting on information that changes how they see someone, while the episode withholds the confirmation that would close the case.

Verdict

“Hide or Seek” is a connective episode that makes several threats more concrete without resolving them. Its strongest move is Chelsea’s joke: the Princess Bride reference is funny on the surface, but it exposes the uncertainty beneath Rick’s claim that he only wants to talk. The gun and Timothy’s escalating crisis add a second, more immediate line of suspense, while Belinda’s investigation keeps the season’s larger mystery alive. The result is less a set of answers than a careful tightening of the questions.
