Spoilers for Season 2, Episode 2. Episode 2 ends with the Nest in trouble, Genet torturing Codron, Carol inside Pouvoir, and Daryl and Isabelle sharing their first kiss. Those closing turns pull the two storylines in opposite directions: Carol gets closer to the faction at the center of the season’s violence, while Daryl’s ties to the Nest deepen even as its safety comes into question.
What happens in Episode 2?
AMC’s October 7, 2024 interview identifies four key closing beats rather than providing a scene-by-scene synopsis: the Nest is not as it should be, Genet is torturing Codron, Carol has made her way into Pouvoir, and Daryl and Isabelle share their first kiss. The episode’s ending leaves each thread unsettled, with danger gathering around both the community where Daryl is staying and the movement Carol has entered.
The fan discussion uses “Moulin Rouge” as an episode title, while the supplied assignment uses “So Close But So Far.” The official episode listing was not established here, so neither should be presented as a verified official subtitle.
Why the Nest’s trouble matters
Daryl is embedded at the Nest with Isabelle, Laurent, Sylvie, and Losang. It is more than a stop along his route: it is the community and set of relationships shaping his decision about whether to remain in France. The closing sign that the Nest is not as it should be puts that fragile sense of belonging under pressure. AMC’s interview does not specify the nature of the problem, so the ending is best understood as a warning, not a confirmed account of what has gone wrong.

What Carol’s arrival in Pouvoir changes
Carol’s journey to find Daryl takes her into Pouvoir, the movement led by Genet. AMC describes Pouvoir as headed toward a violent collision with the Union of Hope, making Carol’s arrival significant beyond her search: she is now inside a faction central to the season’s broader conflict. The available episode-specific account confirms that she reaches Pouvoir, but does not establish the intermediate steps or what she intends to do once there.
Her search is also shaped by the return of painful memories. In AMC’s interview, Melissa McBride says she and showrunner David Zabel discussed Carol’s internal struggles and the things she might revisit. AMC’s interview prompt connects those struggles to Carol’s trauma over losing Sophia; that is character context for her journey, not a newly confirmed event in this episode.

Why Genet is torturing Codron
Genet’s torture of Codron is one of the episode’s clearest closing signs of danger. It shows the brutality associated with Pouvoir at the same time Carol reaches the movement. AMC’s interview confirms the torture but does not give further scene details or establish what information Genet wants, so those motives should not be assumed from this beat alone.
What Daryl and Isabelle’s first kiss means
Daryl and Isabelle’s first kiss changes the emotional texture of Daryl’s life at the Nest. He is deciding whether to stay in France, and his connection with Isabelle sits alongside his bonds with Laurent and the wider community. The kiss is a meaningful relationship shift, but it does not by itself settle Daryl’s choice or resolve the dangers facing the Nest.

It also exists alongside Daryl’s longstanding bond with Carol, whose search continues on a separate path. McBride has described their connection as “an emotional bond, the bond of survival, and just the strangeness of surviving in this weird world together.” The episode places that established attachment beside a new development in Daryl’s relationship with Isabelle rather than presenting the two as interchangeable.
How the two storylines fit the season
Season 2 follows Carol trying to find Daryl while Daryl weighs whether to stay in France. Their separate routes now bring them into different kinds of danger: the Nest faces an unspecified problem, while Carol has reached a movement whose conflict with the Union of Hope is expected to turn violent. Episode 2 sharpens those pressures and changes Daryl’s relationship with Isabelle, but its closing beats do not resolve the season’s larger conflict.
