Spoilers for “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” Season 3, Episode 3. Daryl heads to an abandoned shipyard in search of a rudder, while Carol stays behind in the village and grows closer to Antonio. Their separate journeys converge in the episode’s closing turn: overwhelmed by guilt over Alba, Justina volunteers to take her place with the El Alcazar men and leaves before Carol can stop her.
Why Daryl and Carol go their separate ways
AMC frames the season’s larger journey around Daryl and Carol trying to find their way home to the people they love. In this episode, their immediate priorities pull them in opposite directions. Daryl wants to get his damaged boat moving; Carol is caught up in the village’s danger and in what may happen to Alba.
Guillermo and the El Alcazar men are angry about Daryl’s interference the previous night and Carol’s opposition to their custom of “stealing young girls.” Fede is told to prove his loyalty and begins looking for a way to send Daryl and Carol away. Daryl is already eager to leave: he urges Carol to pack, but she cannot put the village’s trouble out of her mind.
Daryl and Roberto search for a way to repair the boat
Roberto gives Justina a compass pendant so she can find him, then accompanies Daryl to look for someone who might fix the damaged boat. They find Valentina, a former cruise-ship captain living in a remote lighthouse. She doubts the boat can be repaired without a replacement rudder and directs them to an old shipyard where they may find parts.

Carol finds a connection with Antonio
While Daryl is away, Carol remains in the village and grows closer to Roberto’s father, Antonio, who patches her shoulder wound. He tells her that Roberto’s mother died in an accident, but withholds the details.

Antonio has also kept an extensive collection of old film reels. He explains his commitment to preserving them by saying that “cinema is the record of humanity.” It is a character’s line, and it gives his collection a personal purpose: he wants future generations to inherit a record of the people who came before them. Carol’s thoughts turn to Jerry, a reminder that the people and memories she has left behind remain present even while she is stranded far from home.
The shipyard brings the episode’s major walker encounter

This is the episode’s significant walker set piece. The hour gives more space to the split between Daryl’s practical escape plan and Carol’s village-centered story than to repeated walker action. Calling it “walker-lite” is a critical impression of that balance, not a count or a comparison established by the episode recap.

Daryl’s thread is built around forward motion: he has a rudder to pursue, a possible route toward America, and new passengers to consider taking with him. Carol’s thread moves in the opposite direction, deepening her ties to the people at risk in the village. Justina’s decision makes that divide more urgent, because Carol cannot simply leave without confronting what is happening to Alba and the others.
