The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — The Book of Carol is a six-episode continuation built around two journeys: Carol searches for Daryl, while Daryl weighs the life he has begun building in France. That parallel structure gives the season room to explore both characters, but it also makes the wait for their shared scenes part of the viewing experience. It is best suited to viewers who have seen Season 1 and want more of its distinct French setting and long-running central relationship.
What is The Book of Carol about?
Season 2 picks up after the first season. Carol crosses the ocean in search of Daryl; in France, Daryl faces the choice of whether to stay with people he has come to care about. Their paths unfold against the conflict surrounding the Nest, Genet’s movement, and the Union of Hope. Does the split focus work?
Two leads, two kinds of tension
The season’s central structural choice is to let Carol’s search and Daryl’s dilemma develop in parallel. That gives each lead a distinct dramatic question: how far Carol will go to find him, and what Daryl owes to the people and place he has found in France. The format also preserves tension by keeping their stories apart for a time. Its trade-off is straightforward: viewers most eager to see the pair together must spend part of the season following separate tracks.

A reunion with history behind it
Their connection carries the weight of years of shared survival in the larger series. Reedus called it “a real, earned relationship,” while McBride described it as “an emotional bond, the bond of survival, and just the strangeness of surviving in this weird world together.” Those are the performers’ descriptions of the relationship; the season’s appeal for returning viewers rests on seeing that history brought into this spin-off’s new circumstances. What makes the France setting distinctive?
France is more than a change of scenery: the Nest and the competing movements give Daryl’s personal decision a wider context. His possible future there is tied to people and a place, while the struggle involving Genet and the Union of Hope gives the season a political conflict beyond the search for one missing friend. The show’s smaller focus on Daryl and Carol also offers more space for their individual stories than a sprawling ensemble can readily provide. What comes after Season 2?
At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, AMC announced a third season that it said would be produced and set in Spain. This records what the network announced at that time; it does not establish later production or release status. (AMC’s renewal announcement)
