ABC later said the season had concluded before Season 30 began in September 2026.
When did Season 29 return?
ABC’s Season 29 premiere aired live on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 11 a.m. to noon Eastern Daylight Time. ABC billed the opening episode as a “Day of Hot Topics” featuring all six co-hosts. The announcement was published by ABC.
That return is now part of the show’s history. In a September 2026 update, ABC said Season 29 had concluded and Season 30 had begun live on September 8, 2026. The later update is the clearest dated source for the season transition; an earlier ABC page from late August 2026 still labeled the program as being in Season 29.
Who returned as co-hosts?
ABC named the full returning panel as Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro. The premiere was framed around the six-person panel rather than a change in the show’s regular co-host lineup.

Who were the announced premiere-week guests?
ABC listed Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Emma Heming Willis, America Ferrera, Ken Jeong and Michael Urie among the guests scheduled for premiere week. The network explicitly said the schedule was subject to change, so the announcement establishes who was planned, not a guarantee that every appearance took place as listed.
Was Season 29 really “more chaos than ever”?
That phrase is an editorial teaser, not a claim established by ABC’s published Season 29 announcements. The available official material documents the return date, panel, planned guests and ratings; it does not define or measure “chaos,” nor does it compare the season’s on-air disagreements or tone with prior seasons. Readers can reasonably expect the show’s familiar mix of discussion and debate from a “Hot Topics” premiere, but a claim that it was more chaotic than ever would require specific, attributable examples and a clear basis for comparison.

What do the audience figures say?
ABC reported that Season 29 finished first among broadcast daytime talk shows in both households and total viewers for a ninth consecutive season. The network gave a 1.74 household rating and 2.620 million total viewers. These are figures reported by ABC, not an independent ratings audit. ABC’s September 2026 update provides the Season 29 result.
For context, ABC’s September 2025 Season 29 announcement said Season 28 averaged a 1.72 household rating and 2.545 million total viewers, compared with 2.432 million viewers in the prior season. The comparison is useful as ABC’s own account of its reported season averages; it should not be confused with a comparison of premiere episodes or treated as independently verified.

| Season | Household rating | Total viewers | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Season 28 | 1.72 | 2.545 million | ABC-reported figures in its September 2025 Season 29 announcement. |
| Season before Season 28 | Not stated | 2.432 million | ABC’s September 2025 announcement cited this viewer total for comparison; it did not give a household rating in the supplied figures. |
| Season 29 | 1.74 | 2.620 million | ABC-reported figures in its September 2026 update, which said the season ranked first among broadcast daytime talk shows in both measures for a ninth straight season. |
ABC also reported Season 29 growth among Women 25–54 of 8%, citing 226,000 versus 209,000. Its same release described Women 18–49 as up 8% while printing 157,000 versus 157,000, figures that do not show an increase. Because that printed comparison is internally inconsistent, it should not be repeated as a substantiated demographic gain.
What companion formats accompanied the show?
ABC identified two companion formats: the weekday podcast Behind the Table and The Weekend View. The network said the podcast posts on weekdays; the weekend series focuses on entertainment stories and news discussed on social media. These formats extend the show’s discussion beyond its weekday broadcast, but ABC’s announcement does not establish that they are episodes of Season 29 itself.

Where can viewers watch?
ABC’s September 2026 update says Season 30 airs live on ABC and is available the next day on Disney+ and Hulu. That distribution detail concerns Season 30; it does not confirm that Season 29 is currently available on either service.
