Season 1 of Netflix’s The Four Seasons was filmed mainly in upstate New York, with the summer eco-resort episodes shot in Puerto Rico and the college scenes filmed at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie. Season 2 returns to upstate New York and adds the Jersey Shore and Italy, with the finale trip set in Trento. Netflix’s official location guides name these real places. They describe most other settings, including the lake house and the rustic hotel, without giving addresses, so this guide separates confirmed filming places from story settings you may not be able to visit.
Season 1 filming locations
Netflix’s Season 1 series and location guide, published 15 April 2025, ties the production’s locations to the show’s episode structure. The table below lists what the guide names for each block of episodes.

Upstate New York: Cold Spring, Newburgh and Fishkill
The spring episodes were filmed in three Hudson Valley towns. Netflix identifies them as filming locations, but it does not map each town to a particular scene. If you want to find a specific set piece, the towns are the reliable starting point, and the scene-level detail has to come from elsewhere.
Puerto Rico: the summer getaway
The summer block was shot in Puerto Rico. Tina Fey, who co-created and stars in the series, described that summer material as a two-week shoot in a Motion Picture Association interview. The year of that interview is not shown on the page, so treat the figure as her account rather than a published production schedule.

Vassar College, Poughkeepsie
The college scenes were filmed at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. According to the same Netflix guide, the production then stayed in the upstate region for the winter episodes.
Season 2 filming locations
Netflix’s Season 2 filming locations guide, published 8 June 2026, groups the vacation episodes by destination. Season 2 uses a different set of places from Season 1, and it moves well beyond the Hudson Valley.
| Episodes | Destination in the guide | What the guide says | What it does not say |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | Upstate New York | A spring hike to spread Nick’s ashes, and a rustic upstate hotel | The trail name and the hotel name: not stated |
| 3–4 | Jersey Shore | The Jersey Shore is the setting for this block | Specific towns or properties: not stated |
| 5–6 | Lake house | The recurring lake-house setting returns | The property’s location, owner or access: not stated |
| 7–8 | Trento, Italy | The finale trip; the guide identifies Trento as Claude’s hometown | Any specific site in Trento used on screen: not stated |
Upstate New York: the hike and the hotel
The first two episodes open in upstate New York, which ties back to the Season 1 setting. The hike and the hotel are described at the level of the story, not as named places.

The Jersey Shore
Episodes 3–4 move the group to the Jersey Shore. Netflix’s guide names the region only.

Episodes 5–6 come back to the lake house, which has been a recurring setting. The guide does not identify the property.
Trento, Italy
The finale trip is set in Trento. Netflix’s guide identifies it as Claude’s hometown, which gives the Italy episodes a clear real-world anchor even though the guide does not name individual locations used in Trento.

In the Season 1 guide, Fey explains how the team prepared for the visual approach. She credits Arlene Alda, who was the set photographer for the original film and was married to Alan Alda, with a coffee table book about making that film. Fey says the team used it as a template:
“Arlene [Alda, Alan’s wife] was the set photographer for the original film, and she made a sort of coffee table book about the process of making the original film that we used as a template of how to shoot the four different seasons in three months,” says Fey.

In the Motion Picture Association interview, Fey also described the Hudson Valley as the main seasonal backdrop, and said of the region, “New York is a beautiful and magical state.” She described the shoot as running from September to December. Those statements are the creator’s account of the production and do not amount to a complete location inventory.

Which places you can visit
Netflix’s guides confirm real towns, a college, a country and a city. They do not confirm that the fictional lake house, the rustic hotel, the hike or the Jersey Shore property are public places a visitor can reach. Before planning a trip around a specific spot, check whether the property is open to the public and whether the owner allows visitors, because a filming location in a region does not make a building or trail a tourist site.
For trip planning, the safest approach is to use the towns and campus as the anchors. Plan around Cold Spring, Newburgh, Fishkill, Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, the Jersey Shore and Trento, and treat individual buildings, trails and homes as unconfirmed unless you find a separate source that identifies them.
