“Last Name” makes a persuasive case—not because its near-kiss is more intense than the peach scene, but because it changes what Belly understands about the feelings she has tried to keep in check. The comparison is close, and the episode leaves the moment unresolved. Spoilers for Season 3, Episode 6 follow.
What happens in “Last Name”?
Season 3, Episode 6 is titled “Last Name” and runs 58 minutes, according to Prime Video’s episode listing. Its official synopsis puts Belly’s wedding plans with Jeremiah at the center: Adam is on board, the wedding is growing, and Belly feels overwhelmed until a surprise at her bridal shower improves matters.
The wedding preparations give the episode an effective source of pressure. Belly is moving toward a commitment to Jeremiah while the emotional pull between her and Conrad remains present. “Last Name” keeps that tension in view rather than treating the romantic scene as if it exists apart from Belly’s choice.
The wound-cleaning scene is an almost-kiss, not a reunion
Spoiler: After Conrad comes in from the pool with a wound, Belly tends to him. The moment draws them close enough to lean toward a kiss, but Conrad breaks away. That distinction matters: the scene does not resolve their relationship. It makes the distance between what they feel and what they are willing to do more painful.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
In her episode review for TechRadar, Jasmine Valentine describes it as the closest step toward reconciliation since Conrad returned. That is a critic’s reading, not a change in the couple’s status: the near-kiss stops short, and the wedding plans with Jeremiah continue to frame Belly’s dilemma.
The staging helps the scene land. Caring for a wound is intimate without being a declaration; it gives Belly and Conrad a reason to be physically close while leaving the emotional question exposed. When Conrad withdraws, the interruption turns an expected romantic payoff into evidence of how much remains unsaid.

Why “False God” gives the scene its pulse
Taylor Swift’s “False God” accompanies the scene. Music supervisor Melyssa Hardwick told Marie Claire that the track returns with heartbeats in the Belly-Conrad moment. That detail makes the sound more than a familiar needle drop: it gives the near-kiss a physical rhythm, emphasizing attraction even as the characters fail to act on it.
The same conversation offers a useful contrast with the earlier peach scene. Hardwick said that was a major anticipated moment from the books and that “Wild Horses” suited it. The peach scene is built around a charged image and anticipation; “Last Name” uses restraint, a small act of care, and a soundtrack that makes the characters’ feelings seem louder than their choices.

Does it beat the peach scene?
That depends on what “beat” means. If the measure is a completed romantic payoff, neither scene should be judged as though more physical action automatically means more emotional force. The wound-cleaning scene is an almost-kiss, and Conrad’s retreat is part of its meaning.
On buildup and consequence, “Last Name” has the stronger claim. The peach scene carries the anticipation of a pivotal book moment; the episode-six scene gains weight from what Belly is already planning with Jeremiah and from the way Conrad stops just short. It leaves her—and the viewer—with a sharper question about whether the life she is arranging matches the feelings she still has.

So yes, this episode may top the peach scene, but not by replacing it. The peach moment remains a distinct, highly anticipated romantic beat. “Last Name” earns its place beside it by making uncertainty the payoff: the characters get close, and then the choice to pull back changes the moment.

A parallel beat arrives through Steven and Taylor. Rain Spencer, who plays Taylor, discussed the episode’s lemon-squares scene with Marie Claire: Steven says he wants to be friends, and Taylor is prepared to accept that boundary, while her mother sees the situation as a tactic to get him back. It is a smaller thread than Belly’s romantic dilemma, but it echoes the episode’s interest in the difference between what people want and what they choose to say or accept.

Episode details and season context
Rotten Tomatoes lists “Last Name” with an August 13, 2025 air date, Jenny Han as screenwriter, and Jenny Han, Gabrielle G. Stanton, Karen Rosenfelt, Hope Hartman, Mads Hansen, and Nne Ebong as executive producers. Its episode page includes this excerpt from Vulture critic Kathleen Walsh, dated August 14, 2025: “Well, okay, they’re still not exactly acting on their feelings since this was an almost kiss and not a real kiss, but we take what we can get around here. This is still momentum.”
Rotten Tomatoes’ episode record identifies the critic excerpt and credits. The series’ third season is its 11-episode final season. In its Season 3 overview, About Amazon describes the setup: after Belly’s junior year of college, her summer with Jeremiah is disrupted by Conrad’s return, forcing her to confront which brother she loves. The show is based on Jenny Han’s book trilogy, though the novels should not be confused with the episode’s specific scene choices or framing.
