The Scrubs revival is confirmed and airing: ABC’s official listing showed season 2, episode 3, “My Ex’s Ex,” dated October 8, 2026. ABC says the half-hour comedy airs Wednesdays at 8/7c and streams on Hulu; schedules and streaming availability can change, and access may vary by region.
What is the Scrubs revival about?
The revival continues the original characters’ stories years later at Sacred Heart. J.D., Turk and Elliot are established doctors when a new group of interns arrives, shifting the focus toward mentorship as well as the friendships and complications that have long defined the series. The Television Academy reports that J.D. returns to Sacred Heart after years in concierge medicine, with the story still told from his point of view.
The comedy also takes up the way work, setbacks and changing priorities reshape relationships over time. The Associated Press describes the old friends as teachers to rookie doctors, while the show balances hospital drama with comedy, sentiment and surreal humor.

The same feature said J.D. and Elliot’s relationship status was being kept under wraps at that time.
When did the revival premiere, and how many episodes are there?

Who makes the revival?
ABC credits Bill Lawrence, creator of the original series, as an executive producer of the revival, with Aseem Batra as showrunner. Braff, Faison and Chalke also executive produce. 20th Television, part of Disney Television Studios, produces the series.
The Television Academy reported that the first season was filmed in Vancouver with rebuilt Sacred Heart sets. That production detail applies to season 1; it does not establish where season 2 was filmed.

How does the revival connect to the original series?
The revival picks up with the original characters years later rather than presenting a separate story about a new hospital. Lawrence told the Television Academy that the intention was to continue after the original NBC run. The characters’ futures remain open to setbacks and change, rather than treating every imagined outcome shown at the end of the earlier run as settled fact.
The older characters’ roles have changed: they are now experienced doctors responsible for guiding newcomers. That shift lets the series revisit the original group’s humor and affection while making maturity, work and friendship part of the story. Braff described its friendship theme to the Associated Press as the joy of silliness and love between friends in adult life.

What the creators say about the medical comedy
In a Television Academy interview, Braff said he wanted the revival to be “the most accurate medical comedy on TV,” while acknowledging that it might not match The Pitt in medical accuracy. Lawrence said he wanted the medical material to be accurate even when the show was being silly. These are statements of creative intent, not independent evidence that the series meets a particular standard of clinical accuracy.
