The Night Agent Season 3 widens Peter Sutherland’s conspiracy hunt across several cities and gives the series a strong returning lead plus a deeper ensemble. But “Netflix’s 24 replacement” is a useful comparison, not a verdict: the season’s scale and action are clear, while the available evidence does not establish that it matches 24 for urgency or episode-to-episode propulsion.
What Season 3 is about
All ten episodes of Season 3 began streaming on Netflix on February 19, 2026; availability depends on location and subscription status. Netflix’s synopsis sends Peter Sutherland after a young Treasury agent who has fled to Istanbul with sensitive government intelligence after killing the agent’s boss. The pursuit opens onto a dark-money network, paid assassins, and a relentless journalist.
The story’s geography extends from Istanbul to Mexico City, New York, and Washington. That gives the season an international frame for a story rooted in government secrets and political influence. Shawn Ryan, the series creator and showrunner, described its scope as “We’ll be spanning the globe,” in Netflix’s season coverage. The locations are confirmed; whether they make the conspiracy feel expansive or diffuse is a matter of dramatic execution, not geography alone.
Does Peter’s more focused role work?
Gabriel Basso returns as Peter, whose assignment puts him in pursuit of a target while drawing him deeper into the forces behind the intelligence leak. Netflix quotes Basso saying, “I enjoyed being able to fully commit to a capable and more focused version of Peter.” Netflix also quotes Basso describing Peter as “more monomaniacal”—a quality that can sharpen the character’s drive while narrowing his emotional range.

That tension is central to the season’s appeal. A mission-focused Peter suits a thriller built around pursuit and danger; it can also leave less room for the character relationships and reflection that make political stakes resonate. The question is not simply whether Peter can carry the action, but whether his single-mindedness gives the conspiracy a human center.
How the ensemble and political plot shape the season
The returning cast includes Louis Herthum, Amanda Warren, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Ward Horton, and Albert Jones. New cast members David Lyons, Jennifer Morrison, Stephen Moyer, and Genesis Rodriguez join Basso. Netflix’s guide identifies Ryan as creator and showrunner and lists him as an executive producer.

The supporting cast is an important part of the season’s promise: a conspiracy spanning intelligence, money, and politics needs more than a capable protagonist to make its consequences feel substantial. The published critical snapshot reflects that split. Brian Tallerico at RogerEbert.com called Season 3 arguably the show’s best and pointed to its supporting ensemble; Peter Travers at The Travers Take praised Basso’s performance. Other critics were less persuaded by the writing or the political story. Decider’s Joel Keller called it “perfectly good” viewing while criticizing the writing as more “lunkheaded” and noting Luciane Buchanan’s absence. TV Fanatic’s Denis Kimathi argued that the storyline undercut the stakes around a compromised president.
Those are individual judgments, not a consensus about what the season gets right. Together, they identify the central trade-off: the ensemble and Basso’s lead performance can give the thriller weight, while the conspiracy machinery and its political implications may not land equally well for every viewer.

Does it earn the comparison with 24?
The comparison makes sense as a pitch: both shows occupy the action-and-conspiracy thriller lane, where government threats and urgent assignments can drive serialized suspense. It should not be mistaken for proof that Season 3 reproduces 24’s particular rhythm, episode structure, or intensity. Netflix’s season materials describe Peter’s mission and international scope, but they do not establish a direct equivalence with 24; the season’s “replacement” status is an editorial question, not a fact.
Ryan called the season an “adrenaline-fueled thrill ride” in Netflix’s coverage. That description captures the intended mode, but the strongest case for the show is its own: Peter’s pursuit, a sprawling network, and a returning lead supported by a larger cast. If you want the precise feel of 24, its urgency and political stakes need to be judged on their own terms rather than inferred from a shared genre label.

Who should watch it?
Season 3 is a natural choice for viewers who want a continuing, high-stakes conspiracy thriller with an action-oriented lead and an international setting. It is a less certain fit for viewers who need the political plot to feel tightly argued or who want Peter’s focus balanced by more character interplay. The critical responses suggest both the ensemble and Basso’s performance are draws, while the writing and political stakes are points of disagreement.
For franchise context, Netflix says Season 1 received 98.2 million views in its first 91 days and calls it 2023’s most-watched series. That is Netflix’s retrospective figure for the first season, not a Season 3 audience number. The television series is based on Matthew Quirk’s novel, but Season 3’s published synopsis describes a later television-series mission; it does not establish that this season adapts the book’s plot.
