The Lou Thesz Press was another signature, high-impact part of his offense, while the Million Dollar Dream belongs to his earlier Ringmaster chapter.
How to read “devastating” in Austin’s move set
There is no established damage scale comparing these moves. Here, “devastating” means a move’s suddenness, memorability and storytelling impact, alongside how closely WWE associates it with Austin. WWE’s official profile lists both the Stunner and Lou Thesz Press among his signature moves; its retrospective calls the Stunner his trademark.
Stone Cold Stunner: the defining move
The Stunner is the centerpiece of Austin’s legacy. WWE described it plainly in its retrospective, “Stone Cold’s” 15 Biggest Stunners: “The ‘Stone Cold’ Stunner was simple, and it was effective.” Its sudden, emphatic finish suited Austin’s blunt persona and made it an instantly recognizable punctuation mark in his matches.
The Stunner that changed the Austin–McMahon story
WWE identifies September 22, 1997, at Madison Square Garden, as the first time Austin stunned Mr. McMahon. The moment became a landmark in the rivalry between the rebellious wrestler and the company chairman. Its significance was not just the move itself: the Stunner made a defining conflict visible in one abrupt action.

Lou Thesz Press: a signature attack with a clear origin
Austin made the Lou Thesz Press a familiar part of his offense, and WWE includes it among his signature moves. But the name and invention belong to Lou Thesz: WWE’s Lou Thesz profile credits him with creating the maneuver and notes its popular performance by Austin. That distinction matters: Austin helped make the press part of his own wrestling identity, but he did not originate it.
Million Dollar Dream: an early-career finisher
The Million Dollar Dream belongs to the Ringmaster period, before Austin became “Stone Cold.” WWE’s Austin biography says he joined WWE in January 1996 as Ted DiBiase’s “Million Dollar Champion.” DiBiase’s official profile identifies the Million Dollar Dream as his sleeper hold. Austin’s autobiography, The Stone Cold Truth, also recounts Austin using the hold early in his WWF run. It is relevant to his career arc, but it did not define the later Stone Cold persona the way the Stunner did.

Career context—and what it does not prove
Austin began wrestling in Texas in 1990, joined WWE in January 1996, and retired from in-ring competition after WrestleMania XIX, according to WWE’s biography. WWE also records six WWE Championship reigns, two Intercontinental Championship reigns and three Royal Rumble victories; those are career achievements, not measures of move impact.
The same biography says Austin fractured his neck after a piledriver by Owen Hart at SummerSlam 1997. That injury is important career context, but it does not establish the comparative danger or damage of the Stunner, Lou Thesz Press or Million Dollar Dream. The official sources cited here provide no move-by-move injury-risk ranking.
