The Mavericks’ first “Dance The Night Away” tribute to Raul Malo was announced as two Ryman Auditorium shows in Nashville on Dec. 5–6, 2025. At the time, Malo was seriously ill and unable to perform; the announcement said he would be present and honored. He died later that December, aged 60. A second two-night Nashville celebration was announced for Dec. 4–5, 2026.
What was announced for the 2025 Ryman tribute?
In November 2025, MusicRow reported that The Mavericks would stage two special “Dance The Night Away” shows at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on Dec. 5 and 6. The event was framed as a celebration of the band’s decades-long history and contribution to American and Latin music. Friends and fellow artists were expected to perform songs from the group’s 35-year catalog with The Mavericks.
The announcement said Malo would not be able to perform, but would be present and honored throughout both nights. In a statement made before the shows and before his death, he said: “I’m really looking forward to these two nights at the Ryman,” adding that support from fellow musicians, fans, friends and family would make them special. MusicRow’s November 2025 announcement is the source for the event details and the statement.
Artists named in the announcement
MusicRow listed more than two dozen participating artists, including Chuck Mead, Hector Tellez Jr., Jaime Hanna, James Otto, Jamey Johnson, JD McPherson, Jeff Hanna, Jesse Dayton, Jim Lauderdale, Jimmie Vaughan, Joshua Ray Walker, Maggie Rose, Mandy Barnett, Marty Stuart, Nikki Lane, Patty Griffin, Ray Benson, Steve Earle, Wade Hayes, Waylon Payne and Wendy Moten.

This was the announcement-era list, not a verified final running order or set list. The available reporting does not establish which artist performed on which night or every song played.
How Raul Malo’s death changed the context
The 2025 shows were announced while Malo was alive and seriously ill, so the original announcement should not be described as posthumous. The Associated Press later reported that Malo died in December 2025 at age 60, following cancer. AP also reported that he co-founded The Mavericks in Miami in 1989 with drummer Paul Deakin and bassist Robert Reynolds. The Associated Press report on Malo’s death provides that later context.

What was the 2026 Nashville celebration?
On July 15, 2026, MusicRow announced a second annual “Dance The Night Away: A Musical Celebration Honoring Raul Malo” at the Ryman for Dec. 4–5, 2026. The report said special guests would be announced soon; it did not name a Nashville tribute lineup. MusicRow’s July 2026 announcement quoted guitarist and vocalist Eddie Perez: “I’m so thrilled to be coming back to the Ryman Auditorium again this year to celebrate and honor our dear brother Raul Malo.”
The 2026 shows are connected to a broader “The Mavericks & Friends” tour, described as bringing together past and present versions of the band with rotating guest vocalists. MusicRow named Paul Deakin, Robert Reynolds, Eddie Perez and Jerry Dale McFadden as featuring on the tour, with James Otto and Emily West among its guest singers. That touring roster is not confirmation of who will appear at the Ryman tribute.

What is known about proceeds and recordings?
MusicRow reported that a portion of proceeds from the 2025 shows would benefit Stand Up To Cancer; it did not give a dollar amount or percentage. The same announcement said tickets originally purchased for The Mavericks’ Ryman headline shows would be honored.
The reporting available here does not establish attendance figures, ticket prices, a complete set list, a final performance order or an official recording of either tribute. AP noted that The Mavericks released their 13th studio album, Moon & Stars, in 2024. It is a documented way into the band’s later recorded work, not a recording of the Ryman tribute.
