Kids Are Growing Up: A Story About A Kid Named LAROI is a feature-length documentary about Australian singer Charlton “The Kid LAROI” Howard’s life and musical rise. Justin Bieber and Post Malone appear among its interviewees, but the film’s focus is LAROI’s own path from his upbringing to global fame—and the challenges that came with growing up in public.
What is Kids Are Growing Up about?
Directed by Michael D. Ratner, the film traces LAROI’s journey into adulthood, from his early life and musical beginnings to worldwide recognition. Sony Music Canada describes it as a portrait of his upbringing and rise; the film also includes interviews with Bieber and Post Malone. Sony Music Canada’s announcement and the Prime Video listing identify the documentary and its participants.

PerthNow’s first-look report says the story touches on rapid fame, mental-health struggles, first love and the death of LAROI’s mentor Juice WRLD. Those subjects form part of the account of his life and career; the report does not establish a clinical diagnosis. PerthNow published its report on 22 February 2024, alongside the trailer’s release.
What do Justin Bieber and Post Malone contribute?
Their presence gives the film a view of LAROI’s relationships and rise within the music industry, rather than making it a documentary about either guest. One trailer moment recalled by PerthNow is Bieber describing their first phone call, before their collaboration on “Stay.” Bieber said: “The first time I actually called him he was in the shower and I was like ‘What’s up dog you can call me when you’re done’.”

LAROI described the film as a “behind-the-scenes portrayal” of his journey and said it captured some of the most rewarding and challenging years of his life and career so far, according to PerthNow’s report. Ratner, also an OBB Pictures producer, characterized LAROI’s story as inspirational while referring to anxiety, grief and other issues; his comments were made in 2024 and described LAROI as 20 at that time.
