Carol is the woman who removes herself from The Golden Bachelor. In the episode that aired Oct. 15, 2025, she chose to go home because she felt she and Mel Owens had not spent enough time together to build the connection she wanted. A contemporaneous recap reports that Mel was surprised by her decision.
Why did Carol leave The Golden Bachelor?
Carol had not had a one-on-one date with Mel and felt they had not had enough time to talk. In the conversation before her departure, she said, “I don’t feel like I’ve had enough time with him,” and, “I don’t think he’s my guy.” Those lines and the scene details are reported in a People recap republished by AOL on Oct. 16, 2025.

The episode followed the women as they considered their relationships ahead of hometown dates. The recap says Cindy had the only solo date, while Carol was still unsure where she stood. During a group date at Butterfly Mountain sanctuary in Los Angeles, Carol and Mel took part in a spiritual exercise; the recap describes Mel as thinking their relationship was developing while Carol was weighing whether to stay.
Why was Mel shocked?
Mel was reportedly surprised because he thought his relationship with Carol was progressing. As she left, he said, “I was shocked,” according to the recap. That describes his reaction as portrayed in the episode, rather than establishing anything beyond what the scene showed.
