Selected for the 2026 Vancouver International Film Festival Showcase, the film follows three families in Canada as they pursue truth and accountability while carrying grief into ordinary life. The sources available do not establish a wider release or where to watch it beyond the festival listing.
What is The Flight about?
The documentary follows parents, spouses, siblings, and grandparents of people killed aboard Flight PS752. Its official press kit describes how bereaved relatives formed an organization and pursued legal proceedings and international institutions in search of truth, justice, and accountability. VIFF’s listing says the film follows three families across Canada.
The film’s approach also includes the details of living with loss: home videos and acts of remembrance such as organizing a 5K, adopting a dog, and making art. Those moments place the families’ pursuit of justice alongside the continuing work of remembering the people they lost.
The National Film Board of Canada Media Space press kit describes the film as “More than the story of a civilian airliner brought down, The Flight is the saga of ordinary people who discover a strength they never imagined they possessed.”

What happened to Flight PS752?
Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 departed Tehran on January 8, 2020, and was shot down shortly after takeoff by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. All 176 passengers and crew aboard were killed. The film’s press kit notes that Iranian authorities initially attributed the downing to human error, a characterization the families rejected.
Global Affairs Canada’s factual analysis identifies the IRGC as responsible and records that some family members later complained to Canadian law enforcement about intimidation and threats.
