The Conners did get a seventh season, but it was also the sitcom’s last: ABC presented Season 7 as a six-episode farewell event. It premiered March 26, 2025, and the series finale aired April 23, 2025. The “big change” was the unusually short final-season order—not a new season still to come.
What changed for the final season?
Season 7 was The Conners’ final season, and it contained six episodes. ABC News described it as “a special six-episode farewell event,” and a Los Angeles Times oral history published April 9, 2025, also confirmed the six-episode total. The short format made the farewell much more compact than a typical full season, but the cited coverage does not establish why ABC ordered six episodes.

Executive producer Bruce Helford told the Los Angeles Times: “The final episode is a very big thing for us. The whole thing started with legacy fixing, and so we really do believe that this now has the proper end to it.” The oral history also describes the creative trade-off: Sara Gilbert said the team could have used a full season, while Helford said some storylines had to be shortened.
When did Season 7 air?
ABC’s announced schedule began Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The network listed Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as the date for the series finale, “The Truck Stops Here.” That finale date is confirmed in ABC’s April 7, 2025 press release.
