The Bondsman is an eight-episode supernatural action-horror series starring Kevin Bacon as Hub Halloran, a murdered bounty hunter resurrected by the Devil. He must return escaped demons to Hell while repairing his broken family life and trying to reclaim a country-music career. All episodes are available on Prime Video, but the series ended after its first season.
What is The Bondsman about?
Hub Halloran is brought back from the dead by the Devil and assigned a grim job: track down demons that have escaped Hell. The creatures possess human bodies, turning each hunt into a violent supernatural case with shifting identities and unusual rules.

Hub’s mission is also personal. His estranged family becomes involved in the hunts, forcing him to confront the choices that condemned his soul. At the same time, he pursues a second chance at life, love and the country-music career he neglected.
The series was created by Grainger David, with Erik Oleson as showrunner. Documented production companies include Blumhouse Television, Marker 96 and CrimeThink Production Company.

Cast and characters
- Kevin Bacon as Hub Halloran, the resurrected bounty hunter at the center of the story
- Jennifer Nettles as Maryanne, Hub’s ex-wife
- Maxwell Jenkins as Cade, Hub and Maryanne’s son
- Damon Herriman, Beth Grant and Jolene Purdy in additional principal roles
Hub’s strained relationship with Maryanne and Cade is not a side plot. The family conflict supplies the emotional counterweight to the demon-hunting procedural and shapes the show’s redemption story.

How much horror, comedy and music is in it?
The Bondsman intentionally moves between several modes instead of staying as straight horror. Oleson described it as “an original mash up of horror, comedy, music, family dramedy and what-the-**** ridiculousness!” That blend means a grisly possession sequence can sit beside domestic conflict, a joke or a country performance.
The creature premise supports both gore and dark humor. Oleson explained that the demons murder people and then inhabit their bodies, creating “quirky mash-up demons in season one.” Viewers looking for a consistently bleak horror series may find the tonal shifts surprising; viewers who enjoy supernatural action with comic relief and family drama are the intended audience.

The country-music angle and soundtrack
Music is part of Hub’s unfinished life, not merely background decoration. Bacon and Nettles perform songs in the series, and those performances are collected on the companion album The Bondsman: Hell and Back.
The album is best treated as a soundtrack discovery for listeners interested in the show’s country material. A verified physical CD or vinyl edition and a current retail listing are not established, so availability should be checked before treating it as a physical purchase.

Is The Bondsman canceled?
Yes. Prime Video canceled the series after one season in May 2025. Kevin Bacon publicly said he was “Really bummed out that The Bondsman is not coming back for a second season.” Season 1 is therefore a completed eight-episode run, with no confirmed Season 2 to continue its unresolved threads.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who is the show best suited to?
Use these criteria before starting:
- Choose it for supernatural action: the central engine is a series of demon hunts involving possession, violence and body-horror stakes.
- Choose it for the cast: Bacon leads the series, while Nettles brings both acting and musical performance to Maryanne.
- Choose it for genre variety: horror, comedy, family drama and country music are deliberately mixed rather than separated.
- Be prepared for cancellation: there is no announced continuation after the first season.
- Try it for the music: the companion album adds a country-music dimension beyond the plot.
It is a particularly natural fit for viewers who can accept gore and tonal swings in exchange for a fast supernatural premise, a family-centered redemption arc and Kevin Bacon’s performance as a haunted, second-chance hero.
