The most memorable movie campaigns around Super Bowl LVIII included the first look at Wicked, the title reveal for Deadpool & Wolverine, and several spots built around comedy, spectacle, or a quick premise. This is an editorial ranking, not an audience poll: it weighs each spot’s freshness, clarity, memorability, and how well its format worked in a brief, high-profile broadcast.
How to read this Super Bowl trailer roundup
Super Bowl LVIII took place on February 11, 2024. The movie promotions that ran around it were not all the same kind of video: some were first looks or substantial trailers, while others were short, commercial-style spots. TheWrap’s contemporaneous roundup covered campaigns from multiple studios, while Universal’s February 12 recap specifically named five Universal film trailers that premiered during the game. Those are different scopes, not contradictory counts. Universal’s recap and TheWrap’s all-studio roundup provide the useful distinction.

The ranking below favors spots that gave viewers a distinct new reveal, made a film’s premise or appeal legible quickly, and used their limited time effectively. “Best” is therefore a critical judgment, not a claim that a shared survey or comparable audience metric established a winner.
The standout Super Bowl 2024 movie trailers and spots
1. Wicked: the clearest big-screen event promise
Universal billed its video as “Wicked – First Look.” It introduced the screen adaptation of the stage musical with Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, foregrounding the central pairing and the scale of the fantasy world. Its strongest advantage is that it offers a clear invitation even to someone who has not seen the stage show: this is a lavish musical fantasy centered on two contrasting characters. For a short game-day showcase, that combination of recognizable property and a visual first look makes it one of the most complete campaigns.

#1 Best Overall
Universal’s February 12, 2024 recap listed November 27, 2024 as the film’s planned theatrical date at the time. Universal’s announcement and TheWrap’s coverage identify the first-look context and leads.
2. Deadpool & Wolverine: a title reveal with an obvious hook
The first look did more than tease another installment: it made official the title Deadpool & Wolverine, replacing the film’s previous shorthand as Deadpool 3. Wolverine’s presence supplied the central appeal, while the title itself was a newsworthy reveal for existing fans. That makes the spot especially effective as a franchise event, although its hook is less of a premise explanation for newcomers than an announcement for viewers already invested in the characters.
TheWrap described it as a first-look teaser, and The Guardian likewise identified it as the first look at the third Deadpool film. TheWrap and The Guardian reported the reveal.
Rank #2
- Trailer Park Boys
3. Twisters: a compact pitch for disaster-movie scale
Universal presented Twisters as a disaster movie, and its promotional line, “If you feel it, chase it,” efficiently evokes a pursuit of dangerous storms. The combination of a familiar large-scale genre and a short, forceful slogan suits the Super Bowl format: viewers can grasp the spectacle without needing an extended plot setup. TheWrap identified Lee Isaac Chung as director and Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos among the cast. Universal’s recap listed July 19, 2024 as the planned theatrical release date when it was published.
Universal’s film recap supplies the studio description and slogan; TheWrap names the director and cast.
4. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes: the strongest world-building setup
This spot had the burden of introducing a new chapter in a long-running franchise while establishing a changed world. Disney UK’s February 12, 2024 press release describes the story as set generations after Caesar’s reign, when apes dominate and humans live in the shadows. That premise gives the trailer an immediate point of difference, while the franchise name supplies context for returning viewers. It is a strong pick for viewers drawn to speculative worlds and large-scale conflict, though its generational time jump is more context than a short spot can fully unpack.
Rank #3
- Top-rated miniseries! Set in 1897, Print Ritter and his estranged nephew Tom Harte become the reluctant guardians of five abused and abandoned Chinese girls. Ritter and Harte's attempts to care for the girls are complicated by their responsibility to deliver a herd of horses while avoiding a group of bitter rivals intent on kidnapping the girls for their own purposes.
Disney UK named Wes Ball as director and Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy among the cast. Its release said the film was scheduled to open globally on May 10, 2024. Those are historical plans stated in the announcement, not upcoming dates. Disney UK’s official press release gives the setting, cast, and then-current release plan; TheWrap also included the film in its game-day roundup.
5. Despicable Me 4: a comedy spot, not a conventional trailer
The “Minion Intelligence” item is notable precisely because it plays like a comic commercial rather than a compressed, story-forward trailer. The format lets the Minions’ familiar chaotic behavior carry the joke quickly, which is a natural fit for a broad live audience. But viewers looking for a substantial preview of the film’s plot should distinguish this spot from a conventional full trailer. TheWrap called it a clever spot, and The Guardian also noted its difference from the earlier full trailer.
Universal included the film among the five Universal trailers it said premiered during the game and listed July 3, 2024 as its planned release date in the February 12 recap. Universal, TheWrap, and The Guardian describe the campaign and format.
Rank #4
6. The Fall Guy: a premise made for a quick introduction
TheWrap described the film’s setup as a stuntman searching for a missing movie star, with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt among the stars. That is a clean, instantly understandable hook, and it gives the spot an advantage with viewers who may not arrive as franchise fans. Universal’s broader slate listed May 3, 2024 as the planned release date. A qualification matters here: although Universal’s recap lists The Fall Guy in its slate, it does not include it among the five entries it specifically labels as trailers that premiered during the game. TheWrap covers it in its broader Super Bowl roundup, so it belongs in the wider set of associated campaigns rather than in Universal’s five-film premiere count.
Universal’s recap gives the slate context, and TheWrap describes the premise and stars.

TheWrap’s cross-studio roundup also covered Kung Fu Panda 4, A Quiet Place: Day One, If, and Monkey Man. Each offered a different reason to pay attention, though their spots are harder to rank above the picks here on the combination of novelty, clarity, and format.

Why different lists count different numbers of trailers
There is no single count unless “trailer” is defined. Universal’s official recap names five of its films whose trailers it says premiered during Super Bowl LVIII: Wicked, The Fall Guy, Twisters, Kung Fu Panda 4, and Despicable Me 4. TheWrap’s broader roundup spans several studios and includes campaigns for Deadpool & Wolverine, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, A Quiet Place: Day One, If, and Monkey Man, among others. Outlets may also differ on whether a short commercial-style spot counts alongside a full trailer or first look. For Despicable Me 4, for example, the format distinction is part of the story, not a reason to treat one list as automatically incorrect.
Universal’s studio-specific announcement and TheWrap’s all-studio roundup show why the lists have different scopes.
