Subscriber counts look precise until you examine what each company is actually counting. Some figures represent paid memberships at a reporting date; others include free trials, bundled benefits, or subscribers across several streaming brands. The ranking below uses the latest publicly verified figures available by August 9, 2026, while marking the numbers that are not directly comparable.

1. Netflix — more than 325 million paid memberships
Netflix remains the largest clearly identifiable subscription-streaming service in the ranking. The company confirmed that it passed 325 million paid memberships during 2025.
There is an important change in how Netflix reports its size. In 2025, it stopped routinely publishing quarterly membership totals. That means “more than 325 million” is the latest verified milestone, rather than a conventional quarter-end figure that can be compared neatly with every other service.
Netflix also counts memberships rather than unique viewers. A household account, an extra-member arrangement, or several people using one plan does not translate directly into the same number of individual people watching.

2. JioHotstar — more than 280 million paid subscribers
JioHotstar is the Indian streaming service created from the combination of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar. Reliance reported a paid-subscriber base of more than 280 million during IPL Season 18 in 2025.
This is a major figure, but it is also the ranking’s clearest example of why timing matters. The number was recorded during a high-demand cricket event, not presented as a normal month-end or year-end total. Cricket can produce substantial short-term sign-ups and engagement, so it should not be read as an average subscriber count across the whole year.
JioHotstar also reported 503 million peak monthly active users in March 2025. That is a much larger and different measure: it describes people using the platform, not paid subscribers.

3. Prime Video — part of more than 200 million Amazon Prime memberships
Prime Video is difficult to place in a subscriber ranking because Amazon does not disclose a standalone Prime Video subscriber total. The commonly cited figure of more than 200 million refers to worldwide paid Amazon Prime memberships.

Therefore, it would be inaccurate to write that Prime Video itself has 200 million subscribers. The figure establishes the scale of the Prime ecosystem, not the number of people who specifically pay for video.
This distinction is especially relevant when comparing Prime Video with Netflix or Disney+, whose reported figures are intended to represent their video services more directly.

4. Disney+ — 131.6 million paid subscribers
Disney+ reported 131.6 million paid subscribers as of September 27, 2025. That total covers the Disney+ service, including its international operations, and places it among the largest dedicated global streaming platforms.
Disney subsequently changed its reporting practices. Beginning with fiscal Q1 2026, it stopped regularly reporting Disney+ subscriber totals in the same way. As a result, 131.6 million is the last clearly disclosed company figure identified in the available sources—not a current August 2026 count.

The service’s total also reflects a broad catalog built around Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic, although the exact catalog and bundle structure vary by country.

5. HBO Max / WBD streaming — 131.6 million across Warner Bros. Discovery
Warner Bros. Discovery reported 131.6 million streaming subscribers at December 31, 2025. This is close enough to Disney+’s last disclosed figure to create a numerical tie, but the two totals are not measuring exactly the same thing.
WBD’s number is a consolidated streaming figure. It includes subscribers connected with HBO Max, Max, discovery+ and other branded streaming environments. It is therefore not a Max-only total.
The figure covers a company portfolio that spans scripted drama, films, documentaries, factual programming, lifestyle shows and sports-related offerings. But because several services and brands are combined, it should not be used to claim that 131.6 million people separately subscribe to Max.

6. YouTube Premium and YouTube Music — more than 125 million
YouTube announced that YouTube Premium and YouTube Music together had more than 125 million subscribers in March 2025. The total combines the two subscription products rather than measuring a conventional film-and-TV video-on-demand service alone.
It also includes people on free trials. That makes the number less directly comparable with a paid-membership total such as Netflix’s. YouTube Premium includes an ad-free YouTube experience and other benefits, while YouTube Music is the company’s music subscription product.
The service’s enormous free user base is not included in this subscriber figure. Nor should the 125 million be interpreted as the number of people paying specifically for professionally produced streaming series and films.
7. Tencent Video — 117 million subscriptions
Tencent Video reported 117 million average daily video subscriptions in the first quarter of 2025. It is one of the largest services in China and is particularly important in a global ranking because lists limited to North American and Western European platforms can overlook the scale of Chinese streaming.

Tencent changed its measurement method in Q1 2024. It moved from reporting subscriptions at the end of a period to reporting the average daily number of subscriptions. That methodological change means older Tencent Video totals should not be compared with the 117 million figure as though they were calculated identically.
As with other platforms, subscriptions are not the same as unique viewers. The reported number describes the company’s subscription metric, not a census of individual people watching Tencent programming.

8. iQIYI — a ranking uncertainty
iQIYI belongs in any serious discussion of global streaming scale, but its position here cannot be assigned with the same confidence as the other entries. The company’s 2025 results did not provide a current comparable subscriber total in the cited release.
iQIYI previously reported a subscriber base above 100 million, but that older figure should not be presented as if it were a current 2026 count. It is possible that the service would rank above or below some of the services listed later, depending on its latest undisclosed total and the methodology used.
Its inclusion at number eight is therefore a practical placement in a ten-service list, not a claim that a verified current figure places it precisely there.

9. Paramount+ — 79.6 million subscribers
Paramount+ reached 79.6 million subscribers on March 31, 2026, up from 79 million at the end of 2025. The service combines Paramount’s film and television catalog with programming associated with brands such as CBS, Nickelodeon and Showtime, depending on the market and plan.
Its figure is a paid-subscriber total and is more straightforward than the Prime Video or WBD numbers. It still does not represent unique viewers: one account can serve a household, and subscribers can also hold memberships through bundles or third-party distributors.

Comcast reported 48 million paid Peacock subscribers as of June 30, 2026, up from 41 million a year earlier. The service carries NBCUniversal films and television, original programming, news and—depending on the market and package—live sports and other events.

Peacock’s paid total should not be confused with the number of people who have ever used the platform or with free-account activity. It is also a U.S.-focused service compared with the global footprints of Netflix, Disney+ and the large Chinese and Indian platforms above.

Why these numbers are not perfectly comparable
- Different dates: the figures range from March 2025 to June 2026, with some older totals retained because the companies stopped publishing newer ones.
- Different definitions: “subscriber” can mean a paid account, an average daily subscription, a trial user or a wider company membership.
- Bundles: Amazon Prime members receive Prime Video as one of several benefits, while WBD combines multiple streaming brands.
- Seasonal peaks: JioHotstar’s figure comes from the IPL, a period when cricket drives unusually high demand.
- Households are not individuals: one paid account can represent several viewers, and one viewer can subscribe to several services.
For context, Crunchyroll had more than 21 million paid subscribers globally as of March 31, 2026. Hulu reported 59.7 million SVOD-only subscribers and 4.4 million Live TV + SVOD subscribers on September 27, 2025, but Disney later changed its reporting practices. Neither figure is silently substituted into the main list because the available figures and reporting periods do not produce a cleaner comparison.
