Summer Game Fest 2024 delivered a mix of new game announcements, release-date news and trailers for already announced titles. These ten picks favor reveals that brought a notable surprise, a clear release payoff or a fresh look at an anticipated game. The ranking is editorial, not an official or audience-voted measure of excitement.
The main presentation took place on June 7, 2024, at YouTube Theater in Los Angeles and ran for about two hours, according to VGC’s event recap. The list below distinguishes genuinely new information from trailers and updates: several games were already known before they appeared on stage.
The 10 standout Summer Game Fest 2024 reveals
-
Alan Wake 2: Night Springs — a surprise available the same day
The clearest instant payoff was Night Springs, an expansion for Alan Wake 2 that debuted at the showcase and became available that day. Epic’s event recap describes three episodes, each with its own main character. Rather than asking players to wait after a trailer, the announcement led directly to a playable expansion.
-
LEGO Horizon Adventures — the Switch confirmation
LEGO Horizon Adventures was revealed for PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch. The title itself was not entirely unexpected: VGC noted that the announcement confirmed information that had leaked. The more striking news was the Switch version, which VGC identified as a genuine surprise. GameSpot’s roundup also lists the three platforms.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions — a date for a standalone game
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions received a concrete release date: September 3, 2024. Epic described it as a standalone game from Unbroken Studios, with solo, cooperative and online play. That made the announcement more than a glimpse of broomstick action; it clarified the game’s format and when players could expect it. Epic’s recap and GameSpot’s recap both report the date.
-
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII — a first look, not gameplay
The show revealed Civilization VII with a mood-setting trailer. GameSpot noted that it did not focus on gameplay, so the appearance established the next entry in the strategy series without demonstrating how it would play. VGC also reported that the announcement confirmed an earlier leak. For fans, the reveal mattered as confirmation and a signal that a new Civilization was on the way—not as a detailed systems preview.

That exclusivity makes this a significant reveal for VR players, while also setting it apart from a conventional multiplatform sequel.
-
Metaphor: ReFantazio — a new trailer from Persona creators
Metaphor: ReFantazio was already announced; Summer Game Fest offered another trailer and a reminder of its October release. GameSpot connected the game to the team behind recent Persona titles and noted similarities in art direction and gameplay. Its appeal was the chance to see more of a forthcoming fantasy RPG from a familiar creative lineage, rather than the debut of an unknown project.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II — story and gameplay in 15th-century Bohemia
The showcase’s trailer for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II mixed story and gameplay moments. Epic characterized it as story-focused, following Henry of Skalitz amid conflict in 15th-century Bohemia. The combination gave viewers both a sense of the historical setting and a more substantial look at the sequel than a title announcement alone. See the Epic event recap and GameSpot’s recap.
-
Star Wars Outlaws — familiar faces, with a longer look to come
Star Wars Outlaws was an update, not a new-game reveal. Its trailer featured familiar characters including Lando Calrissian and Jabba the Hutt. Epic also pointed viewers to a longer look planned for Ubisoft Forward on June 10, 2024. That made the SGF appearance an appealing preview, while leaving the deeper presentation for another event.

ELDEN RING: Shadow of the Erdtree — expansion news in the shadow of a blockbuster
The showcase included attention for ELDEN RING: Shadow of the Erdtree, the expansion to FromSoftware’s ELDEN RING. The scale of the original game helps explain the anticipation: in a June 21, 2024 announcement, Bandai Namco Entertainment America said ELDEN RING had sold more than 25 million copies. That figure is for the base game, not expansion sales, and it was published after the showcase—not announced on stage. The publisher’s announcement covers the expansion, collector’s edition and bundles with the base game for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam: Bandai Namco’s June 21 announcement.
-
Dune: Awakening — a new look at survival in Arrakis
Dune: Awakening was among the other games featured in the event recaps, earning a place here as a notable genre-and-setting combination: a survival game set in the world of Dune. It broadened the showcase beyond established action, RPG and strategy franchises. The available recaps list it among the event’s announcements and trailers; they do not establish a comparative audience ranking for the game.

What made the 2024 showcase notable
The event’s appeal came from variety rather than ten brand-new game debuts. It paired a same-day expansion release and a newly confirmed platform with a sequel reveal, release-date news, franchise updates and trailers for games already in development. The distinction matters: a trailer for Star Wars Outlaws or Metaphor: ReFantazio offered new material, but did not announce those games for the first time.
These ten picks are an editorial selection from a broader slate. The recaps also cover games including No More Room in Hell 2, Neva, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind; there is no audience poll in the cited coverage establishing one definitive order of excitement.
