This is a historical guide to movies listed for Netflix U.S. in August 2020—not a list of titles confirmed to be streaming today. The available schedule does not establish which exact 11 films appeared in the original article’s selection, so this guide does not invent or rank an “original” top 11. Instead, it gives you a grounded way to navigate the month’s documented arrivals by date, franchise and viewing mood.
What came to Netflix U.S. in August 2020?
Looper’s July 22, 2020 schedule grouped the month’s U.S. additions by genre and listed arrival dates. It included a broad set of licensed catalog films alongside Netflix Originals. The dates below describe that historical schedule, not present-day availability.

Which August 2020 Netflix movie should you watch?
The schedule supports choosing by mood and continuity rather than pretending to establish an objective “best” ranking. These groupings are useful starting points among the films listed; they are not a claim about the precise 11 picks in the original headline.

For a franchise watch
August 1 brought Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III, making a three-film run possible from the month’s listed additions. Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen also arrived that day for viewers who want a pair of ensemble heist films. At month’s end, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace offered two consecutive Daniel Craig-era Bond films. The schedule names these titles together, but does not establish that every film in any franchise was available.
For Netflix Originals
The schedule identifies Work It, Project Power and The Sleepover as Netflix Originals. They arrived on August 7, 14 and 21 respectively. This distinguishes them from licensed catalog additions such as the Jurassic Park films and Ocean’s sequels; it does not make a claim about which titles remain available now.

For a particular mood
- Science fiction and high-concept stories: Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Safety Not Guaranteed appear among the schedule’s genre-spanning options.
- Action and adventure: Hardcore Henry, Mad Max, Project Power and the Bond films offer a route into action-oriented viewing.
- Horror and suspense: We Summon the Darkness, What Keeps You Alive, 1 BR and The Frozen Ground are among the darker titles listed.
- Comedy and lighter viewing: Work It, The Sleepover, The Addams Family, Dennis the Menace, Mr. Deeds and Drunk Parents provide comic alternatives.
- Drama: Les Misérables (2012), Seabiscuit, Nights in Rodanthe and Crímenes de familia (The Crimes That Bind) give the month a range of dramatic options.
Genre labels are broad guides, not definitive descriptions of every film’s tone. Looper’s schedule provides the release context and its own genre grouping, rather than a measured ranking of quality.
Why this is not a verified “11 best” ranking
The documented schedule contains many more than 11 films, but it does not establish the exact titles or order promised by the original “11 best” headline. Naming a definitive set of 11 as though it were recovered would be misleading. The films above are therefore presented as a useful guide to the month’s reported arrivals, not as the original ranked selection.

August 2020 U.S. listings are not current or universal
Netflix catalogs vary by country and change over time. This guide is specifically about the U.S. schedule reported in July 2020; it should not be used to infer what streamed in the U.K. or any other territory, or what is available now. A separate Stylist roundup of Netflix UK’s August 2020 schedule illustrates that regional lineups were distinct. Check Netflix’s catalog in your territory for present-day availability.
