TED Talks India: Nayi Soch was a Hindi-language television and digital series created by TED and Star India, hosted and curated by Shah Rukh Khan. It brought TED-style short talks to an Indian audience through Star Plus and TED’s online archive. “Nayi Soch” means “new ideas.”
What was TED Talks India: Nayi Soch?
The series adapted TED’s short-talk format for Hindi-language television, pairing speakers with a live studio audience and a host familiar to Indian viewers. TED announced the collaboration with Star India on February 15, 2017, describing it as its first major-network television series featuring original TED Talks in a language other than English. TED’s partnership announcement framed the project as a way to bring the organization’s ideas-focused format to a new language and audience.
Talks covered subjects including science and social justice. TED said speakers generally spoke for 18 minutes or less, with professional Hindi and English subtitles for viewers at home. Almost every talk also included a short question-and-answer exchange with Khan.
Who hosted it, and when did it premiere?
Shah Rukh Khan hosted and curated the series. Its first season premiered on Star Plus in India on December 10, 2017. The launch announcement listed a Sunday 7 p.m. IST broadcast, followed by seven more Sunday episodes; that is the original 2017 schedule, not a current listing. TED’s India program page identifies Khan’s role in the project.

What did the first season include?
TED’s 2019 retrospective describes the first season as eight episodes featuring 42 performers and speakers. Its topics included social entrepreneurship, parenting, pollution, gender equality and artificial intelligence. The retrospective also discusses the follow-up season, TED Talks India: Nayi Baat. That later title is distinct from Nayi Soch.
In an April 13, 2018 renewal announcement, TED reported that the first season drew 96 million viewers and said the series had been renewed for three more seasons. The audience figure is TED’s report about the first season, not an independently audited or current viewership count. TED’s renewal announcement provides the dated account.
How did the television format connect to TED’s archive?
The broadcast and online versions offered different ways to encounter the material. TED said each television episode would be divided into individual talks for TED.com/india and TED app users in India. The distinction matters: the broadcast was organized as episodes, while TED’s digital presentation made talks available separately.

TED’s online archive is the verified destination for selected talks, rather than evidence of a currently available full-season service. Nayi Soch localized TED’s format through language, setting and presentation: original talks were delivered in Hindi, a major Indian broadcaster carried the series, and Khan’s brief exchanges with speakers added a television-host dimension. Subtitles supported viewers at home, while the online archive broke talks out of the episode format.
Those features establish how the series was designed and distributed. TED’s announcements and archive do not, by themselves, demonstrate that it transformed education, public debate or innovation in India. The strongest supported account is more specific: it brought TED-style talks to Hindi-language television and made selected talks accessible online.
