What Taylor Swift won at the 2024 VMAs
“Fortnight,” Swift’s collaboration with Post Malone, took the night’s top video prize. The song appears on The Tortured Poets Department, and its black-and-white video presents a deliberately melancholy visual world. Swift said the making of that sad-looking video was unexpectedly enjoyable.

What Swift said about Travis Kelce
Swift connected her thank-you to a memory from filming. She said that after she finished a take and called “cut,” she would hear someone cheering “woo” from across the studio. She identified that person as her boyfriend, Travis.
She then told the audience: “Everything this man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic, so I wanna thank him for adding that to our shoot because I’ll always remember that.” Us Weekly reproduced those remarks in its report on the speech, while Associated Press coverage corroborated the Kelce acknowledgment.

The seven-award haul made Video of the Year one part of a notably large evening for Swift, but “Fortnight” remained the central win because the category recognizes the overall music-video achievement rather than only the song.
Why the “Fortnight” speech drew attention
The moment worked because it paired the video’s mournful screen image with a lighter behind-the-scenes memory. Swift’s account offered a specific detail—a voice cheering after each completed take—rather than a generic thank-you. Her description also gave Kelce a small, clearly defined role in the production: encouraging her while the video was being filmed.
