Chip and Joanna Gaines’ new project, Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House, takes the franchise beyond Texas for the first time. The three-part limited series follows the couple as they transform a 1960s Colorado mountain property for their own family, combining its midcentury character with European-inspired finishes.
What is Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House about?
The Gaineses discovered the property after years of family trips to a mountain town near Snowmass. Its precise location has not been disclosed. Unlike the original Fixer Upper, this renovation is not for a client: it is a personal project for Chip, Joanna and their five children, designed as a place for future family memories.
Magnolia describes the home as the couple’s first out-of-state fixer upper. Axios identified the project as a three-part limited series in a Dec. 8, 2025 report.
Why the Colorado setting changes the renovation
Mountain conditions
The project introduced challenges unfamiliar from the Gaineses’ Texas work, including high altitude and cold, dry air. Those conditions can affect construction materials and the way finishes perform, making the mountain environment part of the renovation story rather than just its backdrop.

Midcentury structure, European-influenced finishes
The design brief preserves the home’s 1960s, midcentury bones while adding European-inspired finishes. That combination points to a renovation built around contrast: period character remains visible, while the materials and detailing receive a more European treatment. Room-by-room plans and completed spaces have not been publicly detailed in the cited sources.
A project rooted in family history
Joanna Gaines described the motivation in a statement attributed by Axios to her on Dec. 8, 2025: “Colorado has come to be a special place for our family,” and continued, “And somewhere in-between ski trips and spring breaks over the last decade, a dream took root to one day carve out a place of our own.”
That history explains why the series is framed as a personal build rather than a typical client reveal. Magnolia’s description likewise emphasizes creating a meaningful setting for memories with their children.
The Mountain House paint palette
Magnolia Home Paint promotes a Mountain House Collection of six colors curated by Joanna. Magnolia’s cited page confirms the number of shades but does not list all six names, so a complete color-by-color guide cannot be verified from that source. The collection is the clearest officially identified product tie-in to the home’s palette.
