James Gunn’s Superman trailer, released May 14, 2025, puts Lois Lane’s pointed questions about Superman’s choices beside a sweeping introduction to the people and places around him. DC’s roughly three-minute trailer breakdown presents the footage as both a character story about accountability and a first look at a wider superhero world.
What the full Superman trailer reveals
The trailer uses an interview between Lois Lane and Clark Kent as its frame. In DC’s walkthrough, Lois presses him about his actions, while Clark defends intervening with the blunt explanation, “People were going to die.” That exchange makes the consequences of Superman’s choices a visible dramatic thread, rather than treating the film only as a showcase for powers and action.
DC describes Lois as a grounding influence who pushes Clark to consider the larger picture. The contrast is central to the trailer’s premise: Superman acts to save people, while Lois asks what those actions mean and what responsibilities come with his public role. This is a reading of the trailer, not a confirmed account of the film’s full plot. DC’s trailer breakdown is by Joshua Lapin-Bertone; the page notes that the author’s views do not necessarily reflect DC or Warner Bros. Discovery and do not confirm or deny future DC plans.
Who appears in the trailer?
Lois, Clark and the Kents
David Corenswet plays Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane. DC’s breakdown also describes footage of Clark with his adoptive parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent. Jonathan’s line, “Your choices, your actions, that’s what makes you who you are,” connects Clark’s upbringing to the trailer’s emphasis on responsibility and personal choice.

The Engineer and Krypto
DC identifies the trailer as the first substantial look at Angela Spica, also known as the Engineer. In the described footage, she transforms her hands into buzzsaws and fights Superman. Another sequence has Lex Luthor and the Engineer invading the Fortress of Solitude, where Krypto defends it.
Daily Planet colleagues and other heroes
The Daily Planet appears in a brief Clark-and-Jimmy Olsen moment, with a Superman toy visible on a bulletin board. Elsewhere, DC points to Mister Terrific and his T-Spheres, Guy Gardner using his Green Lantern ring, and Hawkgirl in action. Rick Flag Sr. is shown with Superman apparently in custody; the footage description does not establish the circumstances.

Metamorpho and Lex Luthor
DC describes Superman being led to a cell where Metamorpho is waiting. Lex objects to Superman becoming the subject of worldwide conversation: “He’s not a man, he’s an ‘it’ that’s somehow become the focal point of the entire world’s conversation. I will not accept that.” The line frames Lex’s resentment and the public debate around Superman, but the scene alone does not confirm what happens in the film.
The central cast also includes Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The listed ensemble features Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell. DC’s official film page identifies the feature as written and directed by James Gunn, who produced it with Peter Safran. It describes this Superman as guided by compassion and a belief in humanity’s goodness.

How the trailer introduces DC’s wider world
The character lineup makes the film’s setting feel larger than Clark’s personal story: the trailer breakdown highlights established heroes, new faces and recognizable institutions in the same world. That is evidence of the film’s ensemble and setting, not proof of a particular plan for future DC projects.
DC’s walkthrough also identifies small background details: LordTech branding, Waid and Stagg signs, Big Belly Burger, a Smallville Giants pennant and a Mighty Crab Boys poster. The author connects the pennant to The Man of Steel #1 and says a postcard resembles Jim Lee’s cover for Superman #204. Those are the author’s identifications of visual references, rather than plot revelations.
