For a 24/7 channel, choose based on what viewers value: a visible, one-off interaction or ongoing access and recognition. You can use both; YouTube provides no 24/7-specific evidence that one earns more than the other.

YouTube frames Supers around direct interaction and faster acknowledgment. For a passionate niche community, it says memberships may help creators connect more deeply with core fans. Which fits a 24/7 channel?
Use Supers for live, visible interaction
Supers can suit a stream where viewers are present in chat and want to make a moment stand out: for example, acknowledging a favorite documentary, sharing a reaction, or greeting other viewers. They are purchases tied to the live-chat experience, so they are less relevant when chat is inactive, disabled, or unavailable for that video.
Use memberships for ongoing community value
Memberships make sense when regular viewers would value benefits over time and you can keep delivering them. Depending on the channel and level, possible benefits include loyalty badges, custom emoji, members-only posts, early access, members-only chat during public streams, members-only live streams, milestone chats, members-only Shorts, and members-only videos. These are possibilities, not a promise that every channel offers every perk; viewers receive the benefits attached to the level they join.

Use both when each has a clear purpose
The features are complementary. A viewer might join for continuing perks and still choose to send a Super during a particular live moment. Make the distinction clear in your channel’s descriptions: membership pays for the stated recurring benefits, while a Super is a one-time chat purchase. Do not promise that either option will create a particular income level or outperform the other on a 24/7 stream; YouTube’s cited guidance does not publish that comparison.
Check eligibility and restrictions before planning around either feature
YouTube’s baseline fan-funding requirements include participation in the YouTube Partner Program, a creator who is at least 18, and residence in a country or region where the specific feature is available. The creator must accept and follow applicable terms, meet feature-specific requirements, and activate the feature in YouTube Studio. These are baseline conditions, not a complete eligibility checklist; availability and additional requirements can vary. Review YouTube’s current Commerce Products monetization policies and verify your Studio settings before promising access.

Super Chat and Super Stickers are unavailable on age-restricted, unlisted, private, Made for Kids, and YouTube Giving fundraiser videos. They also require live chat or comments to be on. Check the current Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility, availability, and policies for your channel and region.

Keep the promise sustainable on a continuous stream
A 24/7 schedule does not remove the work of managing a community. Before opening memberships, decide what you can reliably deliver and how members will find it. A badge or emoji may be easy to maintain; recurring exclusive streams or videos require an ongoing production schedule. Avoid adding perks simply because they are available if you cannot keep them up.
For Supers, consider whether someone can monitor and acknowledge chat across the hours your audience is active. A stream can remain live while no moderator or host is available to respond; do not imply that a highlighted purchase guarantees a personal reply.

YouTube also offers advertising and YouTube Premium revenue for eligible live streams, separate from this comparison. Its live-stream guidance says pre-roll and display ads are enabled automatically when monetization is on, while mid-rolls can be automatic or manual and an ad slot is not guaranteed to serve. Automatic mid-roll settings limit ad disruption to channel members and temporarily pause mid-roll ads for viewers who send gifts, Super Chats, or Stickers. YouTube reported that creators who chose automatic live mid-rolls saw an average uplift of over 20% in instream ad revenue per hour compared with channels without live automatic mid-roll ads, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024. Policy and payout cautions
YouTube says fan-funding features are not crowdfunding or donation tools. Do not describe a Super as a tax-free donation or promise a particular net payout: treatment can depend on applicable laws and other circumstances. Review the applicable terms and local requirements before representing what a creator will receive. YouTube’s Commerce Products policies set out the platform’s framing.
For channels using integrations, YouTube documents IFTTT applets that can react to Super Chat or membership events, including actions involving online services or connected devices; some actions require a compatible device.
