You can loop prerecorded videos on YouTube Live from a low-end PC by preparing files that play smoothly, using OBS to repeat them, and choosing an output your computer and internet connection can sustain. Start with 30 fps and a modest resolution, test the full setup in YouTube Live Control Room, and do not assume a PC can run continuously just because it can start a stream.
What a low-end PC needs to do
The computer has two jobs: decode and play the video, then encode and send a live feed to YouTube. A file that plays smoothly by itself may still strain the PC once OBS is encoding, especially at high resolution, high frame rate, or with complex scenes. OBS says its system requirements do not guarantee streaming performance; CPU demand depends on the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. There is no established universal minimum PC specification for a 24/7 stream.
Use the exact PC, files, and connection you plan to stream with. OBS’s hardware-encoding guidance says a compatible hardware encoder can shift work away from the CPU, but older hardware encoders can reduce image quality at the same bitrate. Test before relying on either software or hardware encoding. OBS’s relevant media-source and hardware-encoding pages are dated 2022, so check their behavior against your installed OBS version: OBS Media Sources and OBS Hardware Encoding.
Prepare the channel and protect the stream key
- Verify your YouTube channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restriction from the past 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, create or select a stream, and copy its stream key into OBS when prompted. The precise stream and key controls may vary with YouTube’s current interface; consult YouTube’s live-stream settings guide.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not show it in a recording or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s stream settings before broadcasting again.
Make the video files easy to play
Choose a file OBS can decode
OBS Media Source documentation lists formats including MP4, MKV, MOV, WebM, AVI, FLV, TS, and GIF. A listed container does not guarantee that every codec inside it will decode smoothly on an older PC. Test each file locally in OBS before planning a long stream.

Avoid unnecessary real-time transcoding while live. If a file plays smoothly in the selected OBS source, there is no need to re-encode it just to match a theoretical preset. If it stutters or consumes too much of the PC’s resources, make a compatible lower-resolution copy ahead of time and test that version. No single conversion preset is established as right for every older computer.
Loop one file or a playlist

Set a conservative output and encoder
Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point; it considers available computer resources and network conditions. Keep the scene simple on a weak PC—extra filters, animated overlays, and other scene elements can add processing demand. Then run a test with the actual video and audio.
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. For H.264, YouTube recommends these specific settings:

These are YouTube recommendations, not promises that a low-end PC or a particular Indian connection can sustain them. Begin at 30 fps and choose resolution and bitrate only after testing. Sixty frames per second may demand more from the computer; starting at 30 fps is practical guidance, not an official minimum. Refer to YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Measure upload capacity, not download speed
YouTube recommends that available upload bandwidth exceed the total outgoing stream bitrate by about 20%, leaving room for variation and other network use. A download-speed result does not tell you whether your upload is sufficient. Test upload performance in the location and at the time the PC will stream, accounting for other people and devices sharing the connection. There is no verified India-wide upload-speed requirement, ISP recommendation, or power-reliability figure for this setup. Use your own sustained upload test rather than assuming a broadband plan’s advertised download speed will suffice. Ethernet is worth trying if tests show Wi-Fi instability; a cable is not a universal requirement and cannot by itself guarantee uninterrupted streaming.

- Start OBS and preview the feed in YouTube Live Control Room before making it public.
- Let representative footage and audio play long enough to check the loop transition, picture smoothness, audio continuity, and stream health.
- Check playback on a mobile device as well as on the streaming PC, and listen for gaps, clipping, or abrupt level changes.
- If you record a local archive, verify that its file is growing as expected.
- If you have configured a backup encoder, test failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet connection, then check whether the player switches as intended. Do this during a controlled test, not during an important public broadcast.
YouTube advises testing before going live and monitoring stream health and audio/video quality. Its guidance does not establish a guaranteed uptime figure for a local PC. Power loss, internet interruptions, or a computer problem can still stop a stream; plan around the actual equipment and connection rather than treating an OBS setting as an uptime guarantee. Common problems and practical fixes
- The video will not open or shows a blank frame: Test the file in OBS’s chosen source. The container may be supported while its internal codec is not suitable for that setup. Try a compatible pre-converted copy rather than adding real-time conversion during the stream.
- The picture stutters or OBS struggles: Reduce output resolution or frame rate, simplify the scene, and test again. If the PC exposes a compatible hardware encoder, compare a test with it enabled; older hardware can trade image quality for lower CPU load.
- YouTube reports unstable stream health: Compare the selected bitrate with sustained upload capacity, preserve the recommended 20% headroom, and test while other devices are using the connection. If Wi-Fi instability is evident, try Ethernet and retest.
- The playlist stops after one pass: Confirm that you used VLC Video, installed the matching VLC version, added the intended files, and enabled Loop Playlist.
- The stream key no longer works or may be exposed: Recheck the selected stream in Live Control Room and replace a compromised key through YouTube’s stream settings.
- The channel cannot start a live stream yet: Check channel verification and restrictions, and allow for YouTube’s possible first-time activation delay of up to 24 hours.

Only stream videos and audio you have the rights or permission to use. A file being available to download, or a loop functioning correctly, does not establish permission to broadcast it. Check YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies for your channel and content before scheduling a continuous stream.
