The next Subway Surfers game is Subway Surfers City, and it already launched globally on February 26, 2026. Developed by SYBO Games, it is a separate mobile game built around a connected city, new modes and challenges—not simply the next World Tour update for the original Subway Surfers. The original game continues alongside it.
What is Subway Surfers City?
SYBO Games describes Subway Surfers City as a fresh chapter in the franchise and a new way to experience its world. Some launch coverage calls it a sequel; “standalone follow-up” is a useful description, provided it is not taken to mean that the original game has been discontinued. SYBO lists both games as separate experiences.
The distinction matters because the original Subway Surfers regularly changes its setting through World Tour and seasonal updates. Subway Surfers City is a new app with its own connected setting, Subway City, and its own modes and progression. It is not just a new city added to the original app.
Release date and platforms
Subway Surfers City launched globally on February 26, 2026, for iOS and Android. SYBO announced the date and pre-registration ahead of launch; GameSpot’s launch-period report also covered the mobile release. The game had previously been in a selected-region soft launch, reported from 2023, but that was not the global launch.

Look for the game through the official App Store or Google Play listing in your region, or start from SYBO’s official site. Store listings and availability can vary by country, device and account region, so a missing listing does not establish that the game has been cancelled or that it is available on every device. The sources confirm mobile platforms; they do not establish a PC or console release.
What’s different from the original?
The key change is that City pairs the familiar endless-runner format with finite, objective-led play. Launch announcements described three modes:

- Events: rotating finite runs and trials.
Launch coverage also identified four districts: The Docks, Southline, Sunrise Blvd and Delorean Park. These are launch-period details, not a guarantee that the current district list or seasonal content has remained unchanged. The announced setting is a connected Subway City rather than the original game’s rotating international World Tour.

New mechanics reported at launch included a stomp move and a bubblegum shield that can enhance jumps, along with new routes and challenges. SYBO also described expanded progression involving characters, outfits, hoverboards, missions and collectibles. These are examples from launch coverage, not a complete inventory of everything added since release.

This is a high-level distinction, not a claim that either game has only one kind of activity. Both may change through updates, and their current content can differ from their launch lineups.
Did Subway Surfers City replace the original?
No. SYBO continues to list and promote the original Subway Surfers separately, and its support documentation says the original receives updates, usually about every three weeks. Timing can vary by platform and region, so updates may not appear everywhere at once. SYBO’s update help page explains that rollout timing can differ.

In practical terms, choose the original if you want its familiar World Tour structure; try City if you want a separate game with connected districts and objective-based levels alongside endless runs.
Is it free, and does progress transfer?
The App Store listing identifies Subway Surfers City as free to download with in-app purchases. SYBO’s help center describes a seasonal Subway Pass that lasts for one game season and offers additional rewards, characters, boards and progression benefits. The pass is optional; available sources do not establish a current U.S. price, which may vary by storefront and region. Check the live in-game purchase screen for local terms and pricing. Do not assume that characters, boards, purchases or progress from the original app carry over. The games are separate experiences, and the available sources do not confirm a cross-progression or transfer policy. Treat City as a separate app unless SYBO’s current support information explicitly confirms account linking or transfer.
The short answer for anyone seeing an old announcement
Stories saying the next Subway Surfers game “comes out in February” referred to the original launch announcement. The accurate current wording is that Subway Surfers City launched globally on February 26, 2026. It is a distinct mobile follow-up, while the original game remains a separate, active title.
