StreamRecorder.io is a cloud service that monitors selected public Twitch channels and attempts to record future broadcasts automatically. You can watch a captured stream in its web player or download it as an MP4. It is useful for unattended, short-term archiving, but it cannot recover a broadcast it never captured, and its recordings are not permanent: the service advertises five days of retention on its free plan and 60 days on premium. Those are StreamRecorder.io’s own current claims, not independently verified guarantees.
What StreamRecorder.io does
StreamRecorder.io is more than a downloader for an existing Twitch VOD. Its main function is cloud monitoring: add a streamer, and the service says it will start capturing future broadcasts when that channel goes live. You do not need to leave recording software running on your computer. StreamRecorder.io also offers playback in a web player and downloads of recordings as MP4 files. Keep three different actions separate: recording a future broadcast, viewing a recording that the service has already captured, and downloading that recording to your own storage. Adding a channel does not necessarily provide access to earlier streams. StreamRecorder.io says free users receive recordings only from after they add a streamer; its FAQ says premium users may access existing recordings. Neither statement means the service can restore any deleted or private Twitch VOD. Availability depends on what was captured, what your account can access, and whether the recording remains available.
The service lists Twitch and multiple other livestreaming platforms, but its homepage gives inconsistent platform totals in different sections. The practical takeaway is that it supports multiple services; check the current interface for the platforms available to your account.

How to set up automatic Twitch recording
- Go to streamrecorder.io and create an account or sign in using an available login method.
- Open the dashboard and choose Add Streamer, or the equivalent control if the interface has changed.
- Enter the Twitch username or paste the channel URL. Confirm Twitch is selected as the platform.
- Check that the channel appears in your monitored-target list and is enabled.
- Wait for a future broadcast, then open the dashboard’s recordings area and select the relevant entry.
- Watch it in the built-in player or choose Download to save the MP4.
Add the channel before the broadcast begins. StreamRecorder.io says free accounts do not get recordings from before a streamer was added. The service advertises automatic capture, but do not treat that as a guarantee that every broadcast will be recorded: channel discoverability, interruptions, changes to a username or Twitch’s delivery system, and service-side capacity can affect capture.
Free plan and premium features
The figures below are StreamRecorder.io’s current advertised features, not independently tested performance. The service does not expose a clear public premium price in the information available on its homepage, so check the official upgrade or checkout screen for the price, billing period, taxes and refund terms before paying.

Premium’s quality descriptions are not fully consistent: the site refers to “up to 8K,” source quality, and the highest available resolution under different conditions. None of those phrases guarantees an 8K file. The captured resolution can be limited by the streamer’s source, Twitch’s delivered rendition, the service’s capture conditions, and whether a premium capture is active. Treat the resolution shown for an actual recording—not the advertised ceiling—as the relevant figure.
If premium expires, StreamRecorder.io says users can still view up to three targets for up to five days at 720p, while other targets remain inaccessible until renewal. Check the live account interface and subscription terms before relying on access to a large archive after cancellation.

How long recordings stay available
StreamRecorder.io advertises five days of retention for free recordings and 60 days for premium recordings. These are service retention windows, not permanent storage guarantees. If a recording matters to you, download it while it is available, play the downloaded file to confirm it works, and keep an independent backup. A cloud library can be convenient, but it is not a substitute for a copy under your control.
For comparison, Twitch’s VOD documentation describes 14-day retention for Affiliates and 60-day retention for Prime, Turbo and Partner accounts; vertical VOD versions can expire after seven days. Troubleshooting missing or incomplete recordings
- The streamer was added after going live: The automatic workflow is intended for future broadcasts. Free users should not expect a recording from before the channel was added.
- No recording appeared: Confirm the correct Twitch username is monitored and enabled, then check again after the broadcast. A public channel’s availability, interruptions, username changes, platform delivery changes or capture capacity can affect whether a recording appears; StreamRecorder.io does not establish that capture is infallible.
- The recording seems split: The service says an entry may be split when the streamer changes title or category. Search the library by streamer and date, and check nearby entries.
- The streamer changed username: StreamRecorder.io says it may not detect a username change automatically. Add the channel again under its new name.
- The recording has expired: Check the plan’s retention window and download important files before it ends. A recording that has expired or was never captured may not be recoverable through the service.
- The download fails: Try the dashboard’s download control again and check that the file completes and plays locally. The service advertises faster premium downloads, but does not promise a particular download speed.
- Audio is muted: Twitch may mute detected copyrighted audio in VODs. A muted track does not settle whether the underlying use was authorized; Twitch explains the distinction in its copyright and DMCA FAQ.
Is it legal to record Twitch streams?
Important: A stream being publicly viewable does not automatically give viewers permission to copy, download, repost or sell it. The answer can depend on your jurisdiction, the creator’s permissions, the intended use, and whether the broadcast includes third-party material such as music, films or sports.
Twitch says creators remain responsible for rights in recorded content. Its copyright guidance notes that detected audio may be muted in VODs, but muting is not the same as a DMCA takedown or copyright strike, and rights holders may still submit infringement notices. Avoid reposting or commercially exploiting downloaded recordings without the necessary rights. Do not use an archive to evade subscriber-only, blocked, deleted or otherwise restricted access, and do not assume that a third-party recording is authorized simply because it is available.

StreamRecorder.io’s FAQ claims that streamers and platforms cannot see who records a stream and describes its process as anonymous. Treat that as a vendor assertion, not a guarantee of anonymity, privacy or permission. A service may process account, payment, device, network and usage data, and platform rules and local law still matter. Before using a paid account, review the service’s linked Privacy Policy, Terms of Use and DMCA Policy from its official site, including what data it collects, how recordings are retained and how deletion requests work. StreamRecorder.io says account deletion can be requested in profile settings and gives a 14-day cancellation period after a deletion request; verify the current terms in your account.

Twitch explains how creators can manage VODs in Video Producer, download them or export them to YouTube in its VOD guide. For a creator’s own archive, Twitch recommends local recording as a way to preserve a high-quality copy. Its local recording guidance covers OBS, Twitch Studio and XSplit, and notes that MKV can reduce the risk of losing a recording if a crash occurs.
Local recording is a better fit when you need control over file location, format, audio tracks or a long-term editing master. It is less convenient for monitoring someone else’s channel: your computer must stay on and receive the stream, and you still need to consider rights and platform rules. StreamRecorder.io is more convenient for unattended capture, but trades some control and permanence for that simplicity.
