Stephanie Matto did not confirm why a professional athlete’s family ended her New York City nanny job. She said the family told her they no longer needed her services two days after she confronted an Instagram account she suspected might belong to the father—but she was unsure whether the account was his or whether the events were connected.
What did Stephanie Matto say happened?
In an account reported by Us Weekly on May 20, 2024, Matto said she applied for a nanny position while attending acting school in New York City. The family wanted someone bilingual with an interest in the arts who could play piano, and she said she was hired quickly.
Matto described the child as well behaved and said her interactions with the father were limited. She recalled that he complimented her appearance and alleged that, while she was preparing food in the kitchen, he pressed against her while reaching for a drawer. These are Matto’s recollections as reported by the magazine, not independently verified findings.
Why did she connect the Instagram account to the father?
Matto said she began receiving messages from an Instagram account with a sports-team logo as its profile image. She grew suspicious after seeing the father wear a cap with a logo she recognized as matching the account’s image. That resemblance led her to wonder whether the account belonged to him; it did not establish who controlled it.

She said she messaged the account, telling its user to stop if the user was the father. The account then stopped following her. Two days later, according to her account, the family told her they no longer needed her nanny services.
Was that the confirmed reason she was fired?
No. Matto described the timing as suspicious but did not say she could prove the account belonged to the father or that her message prompted the family to end the job. Fox News’s May 21, 2024 report likewise noted that she did not identify the sports figure and was unsure whether the events were connected or coincidental.

Us Weekly quoted Matto saying, “Was it the father? Was it just a coincidence? I’m not sure.” The available reporting supports that uncertainty—not a confirmed explanation for the dismissal.
