It is sweet, fruity, pink, and served cold over ice with freeze-dried strawberry pieces. Despite not containing espresso or brewed coffee, the standard version is not caffeine-free: Starbucks lists approximately 50 milligrams of caffeine in a grande, supplied by green coffee extract.
What exactly is the Pink Drink?
The Pink Drink is an official Starbucks beverage in the company’s Coconutmilk Refreshers category. Its flavor comes from a Strawberry Açaí Refresher base, while coconutmilk gives it a pale pink color and a creamy texture. The drink is shaken and served over ice rather than blended.
It is easy to confuse the Pink Drink with a strawberry smoothie or a pink iced coffee, but it is neither. There is no espresso or brewed coffee in the standard preparation, and the strawberry pieces are inclusions added to the drink rather than a purée blended into it.
What is in a Starbucks Pink Drink?
Starbucks’ current U.S. ingredient listing identifies these components in the standard recipe:
- Ice
- Strawberry Açaí Refresher base
- Coconutmilk
- Green coffee extract blend
- Freeze-dried strawberries
The Strawberry Açaí base contains water, sugars, white grape juice concentrate, fruit and vegetable juice concentrates used for color, citric acid, natural flavors, and stevia extract. The coconutmilk component includes water, coconut cream, cane sugar, coconut-water concentrate, natural flavors, stabilizers, and added vitamins.

- Leak-Proof Lid: Ensures no spills for on-the-go convenience
- Thermalock Double-Wall Insulation: Keeps drinks hot up to 6 hours or cold up to 12
- One-Handed Drinking: Convenient drinking without the need to remove or misplace lids or caps
- Perfect Fit: Designed to fit in most car cup holders and under most single-serve brewers
- Easy Cleanup: Features a top-rack dishwasher-safe lid and hand-washable body
The combination of the berry-flavored base and coconutmilk creates the drink’s recognizable pink appearance. The freeze-dried strawberries provide small pieces of fruit and strawberry flavor, but they are not the same as fresh strawberries or a blended strawberry sauce.
Ingredients and nutrition can change when you alter the milk, fruit inclusions, ice, Refresher base, or caffeine option. Starbucks’ published nutrition calculations apply to standard recipes, so a customized order should be checked in the Starbucks ordering interface for its own values.
Does the Pink Drink have caffeine?
Yes. A standard grande Pink Drink has approximately 50 milligrams of caffeine. Starbucks identifies a green coffee extract blend in the ingredient statement. That is why the drink contains caffeine even though it has no espresso or brewed coffee flavor.
The amount is approximate and can depend on the selected preparation. Starbucks’ ordering interface may offer caffeine choices that include no caffeine and light caffeine, as well as an Energy Refresher option. Starbucks lists the grande Energy Refresher version at approximately 125 milligrams of caffeine.
| Version or comparison | What to know |
|---|---|
| Standard grande Pink Drink | Approximately 50 mg of caffeine |
| No-caffeine selection | Available as a customization where offered; verify the resulting order details |
| Energy Refresher option | Approximately 125 mg for a grande, according to Starbucks |
| Iced latte or cold brew | Different drinks whose caffeine normally comes from espresso or brewed coffee |
If you avoid caffeine entirely, do not assume that a Pink Drink is safe simply because it is fruit-flavored. Ask the barista or check the customized nutrition information before ordering.

For its standard 16-fluid-ounce grande Pink Drink, Starbucks lists:

| Saturated fat | 2.5 g |
| Sodium | 85 mg |
| Total carbohydrate | 28 g |

The listed standard recipe uses coconutmilk instead of dairy milk, so it is non-dairy by its stated recipe. That is the most precise general description.
It is broader—and potentially misleading—to call the Pink Drink automatically vegan or allergy-free. Starbucks has stated that it does not offer certified vegan beverages, and the company warns that unpackaged products may share equipment during storage, preparation, and service. Coconut is also identified in the product’s ingredient information, which matters for people with coconut or tree-nut allergies.
For a medically significant allergy, strict vegan requirement, or other dietary restriction, verify the current ingredient and cross-contact information with Starbucks before ordering. Recipes, suppliers, and preparation practices can vary by market and change over time.

How the Pink Drink became popular
The drink began as a customer customization rather than a permanent menu item. Customers replaced the water in a Strawberry Açaí Refresher with coconutmilk, creating the creamy pink version that spread through social media under #pinkdrink in 2016.

Starbucks officially added the beverage to its menu in 2017. That history explains why people sometimes call it a “secret-menu” drink, but the term is now outdated if it suggests that the Pink Drink is unofficial. In the United States, customers can order it by name through Starbucks’ menu and app, subject to local availability.
How to order it today
On the U.S. Starbucks menu, look under Coconutmilk Refreshers and choose Pink Drink. The menu displays Tall, Grande, Venti, and Trenta options; a Grande is 16 fluid ounces.
The standard menu configuration includes coconut as the milk choice, ice, strawberry fruit inclusions, and the beverage’s caffeine selection. The ordering screen also exposes customization options for milk, add-ins, ice, and caffeine.
- Open the Starbucks menu or app.
- Choose Refreshers or Coconutmilk Refreshers.
- Select Pink Drink.
- Choose the size.
- Review milk, fruit inclusions, ice, and caffeine options if you want to customize it.
- Select a store and confirm availability before placing the order.
Being listed on the national U.S. menu does not mean every store has it at every moment. Starbucks’ ordering interface asks customers to select a store to see availability, and supplies, regional menus, and temporary product changes can affect what can be ordered.

Pink Drink versus similar Starbucks beverages
| Drink | Main distinction |
|---|---|
| Pink Drink | Strawberry Açaí Refresher profile with coconutmilk, ice, and strawberry inclusions |
| Strawberry Açaí Refresher | The fruit Refresher profile without the Pink Drink’s coconutmilk format |
| Dragon Drink | A Mango Dragonfruit Refresher profile prepared with coconutmilk |
| Pink Energy Drink | A separate energy beverage, not another name for the standard Pink Drink |
| Blended Pink Energy Drink | A separate frozen format described by Starbucks as using strawberry and açaí flavors, strawberry pieces, coconutmilk, and ice |
“Pink Starbucks drink” is therefore not a precise product name. Pink Drink, Pink Energy Drink, Pink Cannon Ball Drink, and Blended Pink Energy Drink should not be treated as interchangeable beverages. Their ingredients, preparation methods, and caffeine levels may differ.
Can you make a Pink Drink at home?
Yes, but a homemade version should be described as Pink Drink-inspired or a copycat—not the exact Starbucks formula. Starbucks publishes at-home recipes using a Strawberry Açaí concentrate and coconut milk, which provides the clearest route to a similar flavor profile. The store base and preparation quantities are not fully disclosed for exact retail replication.
A practical ingredient list is:
- Strawberry Açaí concentrate or a strawberry-açaí drink mix
- coconutmilk beverage—not canned coconut cream
- Ice
- Freeze-dried strawberries
To make it, add the concentrate and coconutmilk to a shaker or lidded container with ice, shake until chilled, and pour over fresh ice. Add the freeze-dried strawberry pieces at the end. Start with a modest amount of concentrate and adjust gradually: retail products can be sweeter, more acidic, or more intensely flavored than the Starbucks store base.
Useful shopping terms: Strawberry Açaí concentrate, coconutmilk beverage, and freeze-dried strawberry pieces. These are ingredient categories, not guarantees that a particular product duplicates Starbucks’ recipe or flavor.

The Pink Drink is more than a colorful menu item because its popularity moved in the opposite direction from a traditional product launch: customers created the customization, social media popularized it, and Starbucks later adopted it as an official menu beverage. Its bright color, fruit inclusions, and coconutmilk texture made it especially visible in photographs and short-form social posts.
Starbucks also announced a Pink Drink Vibes merchandise collection for U.S. coffeehouses and Starbucks Shop beginning July 7, 2026, with access conditions for Starbucks Rewards members. That is a separate retail collection, not part of the beverage itself; availability, timing, member access, and inventory should be checked at publication.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Starbucks’ Pink Drink coffee?
No espresso or brewed coffee is used in the standard recipe. However, it contains approximately 50 milligrams of caffeine in a grande because Starbucks lists a green coffee extract blend as an ingredient.
What gives the Pink Drink its pink color?
The color comes primarily from the Strawberry Açaí Refresher base combined with coconutmilk. Strawberry inclusions contribute fruit flavor and pieces but are not a blended strawberry purée.
Is the Pink Drink healthier than coffee?
That depends on the comparison and your dietary needs. A standard grande has 140 calories and 25 grams of sugar, while caffeine and nutrition vary by drink and customization. It should not be judged solely by its fruit flavor or pink color.
Can I order a Pink Drink without caffeine?
Starbucks’ ordering interface may provide a no-caffeine selection where available. Check the customized order details or ask the store, because caffeine choices and menu controls can vary by market.
What is the difference between a Pink Drink and a Dragon Drink?
Both are coconutmilk Refreshers, but the Pink Drink uses a Strawberry Açaí profile, while the Dragon Drink uses a Mango Dragonfruit profile.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Starbucks’ Pink Drink is a cold, creamy Strawberry Açaí Refresher made with coconutmilk and strawberry inclusions. It is non-dairy by its listed recipe, but not automatically vegan or allergy-free, and it is not caffeine-free: a standard grande contains approximately 50 milligrams of caffeine from green coffee extract.
