It is a Spanish-speaking version of Spotify’s existing personalized DJ—not a separate music service—and it requires Premium. Whether it appears for you depends on Spotify’s market rollout and your account; in the U.S. help page, the language option is labeled “Spanish (Mexico) — DJ Livi.”
What Spotify launched
Spotify’s original DJ debuted in beta for Premium listeners in the United States and Canada on February 22, 2023. The Spanish version followed on July 17, 2024. Rather than introducing a new catalog or standalone app, Spotify added a Spanish-language voice and presentation to the existing DJ experience. Spotify’s original DJ announcement and its Spanish DJ announcement describe those launches.
Livi’s voice and role
Spotify says Livi’s voice is based on Olivia “Livi” Quiroz Roa, a Mexico City-based Spotify music editor who has worked on editorial and music programs including EQUAL in Mexico. That makes Livi a named voice persona, not a human host broadcasting live. The voice is one part of the experience: Spotify’s personalization systems choose music for the listener, while short spoken segments introduce selections or offer context.
How it compares with DJ X
The English-language DJ voice is based on Spotify’s Xavier “X” Jernigan; Livi is the Spanish-language counterpart. The broad format is the same: personalized songs, brief commentary, and a control for changing the listening direction. A Spanish DJ voice is separate from the app’s general display-language setting.

How Spotify DJ works
DJ is best understood as a personalized, radio-style listening session. Spotify describes it as drawing on listening history to revisit familiar favorites and introduce other artists, genres, and music, with spoken commentary between selections. If the current direction is not right, the listener can use the DJ control to move to another mood or musical direction.
- Music selection: recommendations are personalized rather than a fixed station playlist.
- Spoken presentation: commentary accompanies the music; Livi supplies the Spanish-language voice where available.
- Some control, not full programming: the DJ control can change the direction, but the original launch description does not establish an ability to fulfill every arbitrary conversational request.
Spotify’s current support documentation may describe newer request controls, including text or microphone input, but their availability can vary by market and rollout. DJ should not be treated as an unrestricted chatbot, a tool that generates music, or a guarantee that every spoken detail is accurate. Spotify’s DJ support page lists current controls and language options.

Where Livi is available
When Spotify announced Livi in July 2024, it named Spain and these Latin American markets: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The announcement described a beta rollout for Premium users in markets where DJ was available.
That launch list is historical, not a guarantee of availability today. Spotify says DJ is limited by market and language; its official DJ announcement page was updated March 18, 2026, to note English-and-Spanish availability in Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, and Poland. In the United States, Spotify’s support page lists “Spanish (Mexico) — DJ Livi.” Country and account eligibility can affect what appears, so check the DJ language menu and the help page for your region rather than assuming that every Spanish-speaking country has the feature. How to turn on DJ Livi
Spotify’s current support instructions use the mobile app and direct listeners to Search, rather than relying on the Home feed. The original 2023 launch used the Home Music Feed, so older directions may not match the current interface.
- Open the Spotify mobile app and go to Search.
- Search for DJ, then tap DJ to start listening.
- Open the DJ card’s three-dot menu. The dots are horizontal on iOS and vertical on Android.
- Tap DJ language.
- Choose a Spanish option if one is listed. In the U.S. support interface, it is labeled Spanish (Mexico) — DJ Livi.
The language selector changes DJ’s spoken presentation; it is not simply a translation setting for the whole app. Spotify’s current instructions are available on its Spanish support page and North American support page.

Who can use it—and what to check if it is missing
Spotify labels DJ as a Premium feature. A Premium subscription is necessary, but it does not guarantee DJ or Livi access in every country or on every account. The launch instructions focus on the iOS and Android mobile apps; they do not establish that the same language controls are available on desktop, web, TVs, consoles, cars, or every connected device.
- Confirm that the account has Premium and that its country is one where Spotify has enabled DJ.
- Update the mobile app, then search for DJ directly instead of relying on a Home-screen card.
- If DJ appears but the language option does not, check the DJ card’s three-dot menu and the support information for your account’s region.
- If the feature should be available but still does not appear, signing out and back in is a reasonable check. It cannot force a server-side rollout that Spotify has not enabled for the account.
Recommendations may miss a listener’s immediate mood, repeat familiar artists, or include commentary that feels generic. Spotify’s public descriptions do not provide a formal accuracy guarantee or a measured error rate, so these are practical expectations for an algorithmic listening feature, not quantified defects.

Is Premium worth getting just for Livi?
Only consider upgrading after confirming that DJ is available for your account and that the Spanish option appears. Spotify’s U.S. Premium page lists regional plans and any current introductory offers, which can change; prices and promotions should be checked there rather than assumed to be permanent. Check Spotify’s current U.S. Premium plans or use the Premium page for your own region. If Livi is unavailable to your account, paying for Premium alone will not guarantee access to it.
What “AI DJ” means in practice
The “AI” label refers to a personalized music-selection and spoken-presentation feature. Spotify’s description supports a DJ that combines recommendations, editorial context, and a modeled voice; it does not establish that Livi is a live human host or a general-purpose assistant that can play any request, create new songs, or understand every instruction. Listeners who want to choose each track themselves may prefer playlists or other Spotify listening tools, while Livi is aimed at people who want a more guided, radio-like way to discover music.
