Spotify’s price increases are confirmed in selected markets, not just rumored: on January 15, 2026, the company announced updates for the United States, Estonia, and Latvia. Spotify also announced changes across several international regions in 2025. There is no single worldwide price or effective date; check your account notice and billing details for the amount and date that apply to you.

Other markets
On August 4, 2025, Spotify announced Premium pricing changes across multiple markets in South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific. That does not mean every country in those regions received an increase, or that all increases were identical. Prices are localized and can reflect local factors and market demand. The available announcements do not establish a separate August 2026 increase applying to every country or every Spotify user. Treat a notice in your own account—not a global headline—as the guide to your subscription.

Current U.S. prices and what changed
Spotify’s U.S. Premium page lists Individual at $12.99 per month, and its U.S. Student page lists $6.99 per month for eligible students under the displayed offer terms. When the new price applies to your account
For U.S. subscribers affected by an update, Spotify says it sends an email stating the new price and effective date, and provides a one-month grace period to cancel before that price takes effect. Your billing date depends on your account. Do not assume that an announcement date is also your charge date. Spotify’s U.S. price-update guidance
- Sign in to Spotify and open your account page.
- Review the plan and billing details for the next payment date and displayed amount.
- Search the email address on the account for Spotify’s price-change notice, including its effective date.
- If you do not want to pay the updated price, cancel before the relevant billing date and follow any instructions shown for your payment provider.
Notice periods can differ by country. For example, Spotify’s German support page describes a three-month grace period for a particular 2025 change; that is not a general rule for all countries or updates. Spotify’s German price-update guidance

Trials, student discounts and other plan details
Trials and promotional offers
Spotify’s U.S. price-update guidance says that after a trial ends, a user receives one month at the original price before the new plan price applies. The U.S. Premium page may also show an introductory offer such as one month at no charge followed by the recurring rate. Read the terms attached to your particular offer: a promotion is not a permanent price guarantee.
Student, Duo and Family plans
Student pricing depends on eligibility and verification, and a discount is limited in duration. The U.S. Student page displays $6.99 per month and a Hulu bundle for eligible students under its stated terms; confirm the current offer and expiry terms on the page before signing up. Duo and Family can reduce the cost per person compared with separate Individual accounts, but they are intended for people meeting Spotify’s household or address rules. Gift cards and third-party billing
Spotify’s U.S. support guidance says gift cards can be redeemed only for Premium Individual. If you subscribed through Apple, Google, a mobile carrier, or another partner, that provider may control billing and cancellation; check its terms and account settings as well as Spotify’s. - Household use: If two or more eligible household members listen regularly, compare the per-person cost of Duo or Family with separate Individual plans.
- Student eligibility: The Student plan may be a better fit if you qualify and will use its included Hulu offer; the discount is not permanent.
- Offline listening and ads: Premium may be more valuable if you rely on downloads or want ad-free listening. Spotify Free avoids the subscription charge but is ad-supported and has playback limitations.
- Audiobooks and other features: Premium audiobook allowances and plan features vary by market, so verify what your own plan includes.
- Bundled services: Count a bundle only if you are eligible and would genuinely use the additional service.
- Billing and taxes: The final charge can depend on jurisdiction and payment channel; the amount on your account or provider’s billing page is more useful than a general advertised price.
How to cancel or change plans
If the new rate does not suit you, Spotify says you can cancel Premium and continue with the free, ad-supported service. For a normal paid subscription, Premium generally remains available through the end of the paid billing period. Use the account page to review available plans and cancellation options. If a third party bills you, cancel through that provider’s subscription settings. Changing your Spotify country is not a shortcut to another market’s price: a move may require a payment method issued in the new country and can change catalog availability. What the price change does—and does not—mean
Spotify says pricing updates help provide value to fans and artists, but a higher subscription price should not be described as a direct increase in payments to artists without evidence of that mechanism. The practical question for an individual subscriber is the new rate and effective date Spotify gives for that account.
