Spotify’s music-video rollout in the United States and Canada is no longer upcoming: the beta launched in December 2025, and Spotify said all Premium users in both countries had access by December 10. The catalog is still limited and rights-dependent. In June 2026, Spotify added Videos for You, a daily refreshed playlist of music videos, live performances and covers.
What Spotify’s music-video feature does
For supported tracks, Spotify lets listeners switch between the audio recording and an associated video from the Now Playing screen. Start a song, open Now Playing and choose Switch to video; choose Switch to audio to return to listening. Spotify says playback resumes at approximately the same point when switching formats, though results can vary with the track, device and connection.
This is video playback, not the same thing as Spotify’s short looping Canvas visuals, Clips, video podcasts, animated lyrics or artist-profile material. The video catalog can include official studio music videos as well as live performances and covers, so a video result is not necessarily the official video for the studio recording.

In the U.S. and Canada, music videos are a Premium feature. A Free account in either country should not expect access to the feature; Spotify lists some free-tier music-video availability in Brazil and Colombia, but that exception does not apply generally across North America. Spotify continues to describe the experience as beta.

Spotify identifies TV, desktop, iOS and Android as supported device categories. That does not guarantee identical availability on every individual television, browser, app version or operating system. On a phone, rotate to landscape for a full-screen view.
Premium does not unlock every video. Availability depends on the catalog, the listener’s market, account eligibility, device support and rights clearance. A song may play normally as audio while its video is unavailable.
How to find more videos
The simplest route is to play a track that has video and look for Switch to video in Now Playing. Spotify also offers discovery through search, artist profiles’ Music sections, related music videos, genre- and era-based video playlists, and its Explore Music Videos area. Spotify’s Music Video Charts Global destination provides another way to browse.

Videos for You, added on June 15, 2026, is a personalized playlist refreshed daily. It mixes music videos with live performances and covers. These discovery features broaden the ways to find available material, but they do not make the catalog complete.
Why the catalog is not universal
Music video rights are distinct from the rights needed to stream a song as audio. Spotify described the launch catalog as limited, and licensing can vary by territory and by recording. That is why the presence of an audio track does not guarantee an accompanying video, even when an official video exists elsewhere.
The timing of the North American expansion appears closely connected to Spotify’s broader work on audiovisual and publishing agreements in the U.S. In November 2025, Spotify announced an opt-in arrangement with the National Music Publishers’ Association for eligible independent publishers to grant expanded audiovisual rights. Spotify also announced direct U.S. publishing arrangements with BMG and Sony Music Publishing in 2025, and its agreement with Warner Music Group referred to expanded video catalogs and audiovisual streaming opportunities. These developments provide context; Spotify has not said that any single deal alone triggered the consumer launch.

For artists: delivery, rights and direct uploads
Spotify says labels and distributors remain the primary route for delivering music videos. Delivery and U.S. publishing eligibility are separate matters: a video can be delivered but still be unavailable in the U.S. if the relevant publishing requirements are not met.
Spotify’s artist guidance says U.S. eligibility generally requires each songwriter associated with the underlying work to be registered with The Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) and opted into Spotify’s Direct Audiovisual Licensing Agreement administered by the Harry Fox Agency. Publishers often handle MLC registration and related administration for songwriters under exclusive publishing agreements, so artists should coordinate with their publisher rather than make duplicate or conflicting arrangements. Spotify says enabling a video after requirements are complete can take up to seven days. See Spotify’s publishing-rights guidance.
Spotify for Artists also has direct video uploads in beta for a limited group of artist teams. The documented desktop path is Spotify for Artists → Video & Visuals → Upload Video, followed by adding the music and video details and submitting. The option is not available to every artist team; its absence does not necessarily indicate an account problem. Spotify supports official music videos, live performances, studio sessions and covers through this tool, while labels and distributors remain the main delivery path.

For direct uploads, Spotify’s published requirements specify landscape 16:9 video, at least 1,920 × 1,080 pixels, longer than 30 seconds but shorter than 20 minutes, and under 50 GB. Content must be music-first, with the song as its main focus; a vertical social-video cut may not meet the format requirements. After successful processing, a video can take up to 24 hours to appear, and analytics may take roughly 24 hours after publication to become available. If “Switch to video” is missing
- Check the track: It may not have a video in Spotify’s catalog, or the video may not be licensed in your market.
- Check eligibility: U.S. and Canadian access requires Premium, and the feature remains in beta.
- Try another supported device: Spotify lists TV, desktop, iOS and Android, but support may differ by device or app version.
- Update Spotify and test another track: If the control still does not appear on a track known to have a video, check Spotify’s current support information. Reinstalling the app is not a guaranteed fix.
Video playback will generally use more data and battery than audio. Spotify’s cited materials do not establish a single usage figure, so the amount will depend on factors such as video quality, device and network conditions.

Its distinctive convenience is switching between a supported song and video in the same music app; its limitation is that licensing and catalog coverage determine what can actually be watched.
