Spotify lossless is available to eligible Premium subscribers in more than 50 markets, according to the company’s October 2025 update. It streams nearly every eligible song in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC. Spotify’s announcement named 12 initial countries but did not publish a complete country-by-country list, so check the Lossless option in your account’s app to confirm availability where you live.
Is Spotify lossless available yet?
Yes. Spotify announced its lossless feature on September 10, 2025, and said on October 6 that it had reached Premium users in more than 50 markets. This is no longer an upcoming feature: Spotify lists lossless listening among the benefits of eligible Premium plans.
The long wait followed Spotify’s February 2021 announcement of Spotify HiFi, which promised CD-quality lossless audio in selected markets later that year. That feature did not launch as promised at the time. The 2025 launch arrived under the name “Lossless Listening.” Spotify’s original HiFi announcement and its 2025 launch update provide the timeline.
Which countries have Spotify lossless?
Spotify initially named these 12 countries for the rollout:

That is the initial list, not a complete list of current availability. Spotify later said lossless had reached more than 50 markets, but its cited announcement does not enumerate them all. Do not assume that either the original 12 countries or every Spotify market represents the full current list. The most reliable check is whether Lossless appears in your own eligible account.
Update Spotify, sign in to an eligible Premium account, then open Settings and privacy and look for Media Quality on mobile or Audio Quality or Media Quality on desktop. If Lossless is offered as a quality choice, it is available to that account and app. If it is missing, check your plan, app version, market, and playback device; availability can vary by account or device, and the setting may need to be changed separately on each device.
Does Spotify lossless cost extra?
Spotify announced lossless as a benefit of eligible Premium plans; it did not announce a separate lossless subscription fee in its launch announcement. The exact Premium price and available plan options depend on your country, plan, promotions, taxes, and billing channel. Check Spotify’s Premium benefits and your local account page rather than relying on a price quoted for another market. Free accounts receive compressed audio, not lossless.

What quality does Spotify lossless provide?
Spotify’s maximum stated lossless playback quality is 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC. FLAC is a lossless compression format: it reduces file size without discarding audio data as lossy formats do. The stated sample rate is 44.1 kHz, however, so Spotify’s maximum is not the same as 24-bit/96 kHz or 24-bit/192 kHz high-resolution streaming offered by some services.

Lossless describes how the audio is encoded and delivered, not how well it was recorded or mastered. A poorly recorded or heavily compressed master does not become better just because Spotify delivers it in FLAC. Spotify says nearly every song is available in lossless, not every track. Music videos, podcasts, and audiobooks are not available in lossless quality.
A playback device showing a 96 kHz or other output rate does not prove Spotify supplied audio at that rate. The operating system, DAC, or device may resample the stream. Spotify’s published ceiling remains up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz.
How to turn on Spotify lossless
On a phone or tablet
- Open Spotify and tap your profile picture.
- Choose Settings and privacy, then Media Quality.
- Set the quality to Lossless for the categories you want: Wi-Fi streaming, cellular streaming, and downloads.
These controls are separate. For example, you can choose lossless for Wi-Fi and downloads while using a lower quality over cellular data. Enabling it on one device does not necessarily enable it on another.
On desktop
- Open Spotify and select your profile picture.
- Choose Settings and privacy.
- Find Audio Quality or Media Quality, then select Lossless for streaming or downloads.

On a Spotify Connect device
Some third-party devices require you to set quality while connected to that device. Start playback, open the device picker, select the speaker or streamer, then find its quality setting and choose Lossless. Check the exact model’s support and firmware: a device supporting Spotify Connect does not automatically support lossless playback. Spotify’s Connect lossless guide provides device guidance.
To check whether the feature is active, look for a Lossless indicator in the Now Playing view or playback bar. Spotify says the indicator may also appear in the Connect Picker. If the label is absent, check the selected output, track type, device support, and quality setting.

Spotify says lossless is available through its mobile, desktop, and tablet apps, as well as compatible Spotify Connect devices. Its initial announcement named devices from Sony, Bose, Samsung, and Sennheiser; it also said support for Sonos and Amazon devices was expected later. Brand names alone are not proof that a particular model works. Compatibility depends on the exact model, firmware, Spotify Connect implementation, and connection path.

Ordinary Bluetooth playback commonly re-encodes audio into a compressed stream, so enabling Lossless in the app does not guarantee lossless transmission to Bluetooth headphones. This is a practical limitation of the playback chain, not a claim that every Bluetooth technology in every configuration is incapable of lossless transmission.

For the most dependable lossless path, use a wired connection or a compatible Spotify Connect device and confirm that the Lossless indicator is visible. Do not buy a DAC or new headphones just to try the feature if your existing setup already works: extra equipment is useful only when it solves a real limitation, such as a missing headphone output, noise, or insufficient power for your headphones.
Data, downloads, and buffering
Lossless files are larger than compressed streams, so they can use more mobile data and storage and may take longer to start or download. Spotify recommends Wi-Fi or a strong connection; one regional support page gives roughly 1.5–2 Mbps as a guide for the best lossless listening experience. Actual needs vary with the stream and network conditions.
If your mobile plan is limited, set lossless only for Wi-Fi and downloads, or keep cellular playback at a lower quality. If playback stutters, check network stability, update the Spotify app and device firmware, and confirm the device supports lossless. If problems persist, lower the quality to Very High or another available setting. On third-party equipment, adjust quality through the connected device settings.

Whether you hear a difference depends on the recording and mastering, your hearing and listening environment, and the equipment and connection carrying the signal. Lossless affects fidelity, not loudness: Spotify says loudness normalization still applies. For a fair comparison, use a familiar recording, match the volume, and verify that the Lossless indicator is showing. If you are comparing services, Apple Music, Amazon Music Unlimited, TIDAL, Qobuz, and Deezer are alternatives to investigate; catalog availability, features, and plan details vary by market.
