Spider-Man: Brand New Day brings Peter Parker into conflict with a powerful threat the official synopsis does not identify. Sony’s character guide names several important figures—including Jean Grey, the Punisher, Hulk and Bill Metzger—but those confirmations do not mean every character is a cameo or that any one of them is definitively the unseen villain.
What does the trailer reveal about the story?
Sony’s official synopsis places Peter Parker in a world that no longer remembers him. His old friends are moving on, and the isolation leads to a transformation he may not be able to control. The trailer description likewise says that change may be the only thing that stops a new threat to the city and the people Peter loves. Sony sums up the premise this way: “The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.”
The synopsis teases a “powerful villain no one can even see,” but does not give that villain a name. That is the clearest official answer to the trailer’s central mystery: the threat is presented as unseen, and its identity remains unspecified in the published synopsis.
Which characters are confirmed?
Sony’s FAQ identifies these main characters. These are official character confirmations, not proof that each appearance is a cameo or that each character is shown in the trailer.

| Character | What the official information says |
|---|---|
| Peter Parker / Spider-Man | The story follows Peter as he fights crime full-time while living with the consequences of a world that has forgotten him. (Sony Pictures) |
| Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson and Ned Leeds | Sony says neither remembers Peter after the events of No Way Home. (Sony Pictures) |
| Jean Grey | Sony identifies Sadie Sink as Jean. The FAQ describes Jean as a young psychic looking for answers about her older sister Sara’s disappearance; she can transfer her consciousness into other people. (Sony Pictures) |
| Frank Castle / The Punisher | Sony describes Castle’s harsh approach to justice as a source of conflict with Spider-Man, with their relationship developing into an uneasy alliance. (Sony Pictures) |
| Bruce Banner / Hulk | Sony says Banner is a professor who becomes a resource to Peter, then loses control and unleashes Savage Hulk. (Sony Pictures) |
| William “Bill” Metzger | Sony describes Metzger as director of the Department of Damage Control and a hidden source of conflict. (Sony Pictures) |
| Mac Gargan / Scorpion | Amazon News identifies Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/Scorpion. That identification does not establish that a particular trailer shot shows Scorpion. (Amazon News) |
Who are the possible villains?
The unseen threat is still unnamed
Sony’s official synopsis does not identify the “powerful villain no one can even see.” Avoid treating a fan theory or a character’s conflict with Peter as confirmation of that identity.
Jean Grey is described as an adversary, not confirmed as the main villain
Sony says Jean initially appears to be a dangerous adversary, while Peter’s later discoveries change his perspective. That describes a turn in their relationship; it does not establish that she is the film’s central villain.

Bill Metzger is a source of conflict, not the named unseen villain
Sony calls Metzger a hidden source of conflict, making him relevant to the film’s antagonism. But the official synopsis does not explicitly identify him as the unseen figure it teases.
The Punisher and Savage Hulk create danger without being identified as the central villain
Sony frames Frank Castle as initially at odds with Spider-Man before an uneasy alliance develops. It also describes Banner losing control and unleashing Savage Hulk. Those dynamics establish conflict and peril, not either character’s status as the unnamed main villain.

Not on the strength of the cast list alone. Sony’s trailer description lists Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo. A credit confirms involvement, but does not establish the size of a role, whether it is a cameo, or whether that performer appears in the trailer. Sony’s FAQ supplies character information for several of them, while Amazon News identifies Mando with Scorpion; neither fact by itself makes an appearance a cameo.
