Sony demonstrated a location-based The Last of Us experience at CES 2025, but its official materials describe it as a proof of concept—not a confirmed public attraction. Sony has not announced a venue, ticketing, touring plans or an opening date in the sources reviewed.
What Sony showed at CES 2025
The installation placed visitors inside an enclosed space surrounded by a wrap-around Crystal LED display. The screen showed scenes from The Last of Us, while visitors used controllers to interact with the game content. Sony described the concept as combining display technology, audio, haptics, scent and atmospheric effects. Naughty Dog LLC created and developed the concept, according to Sony’s concept page.
Sony’s CES booth transcript describes a Clicker appearing in an underground tunnel. Visitors used a Mimic Controller to respond to the creature, with fog and other atmospheric effects contributing to the scene. The demonstration also featured 360 Reality Audio and scent.
Is it open to the public?
No public attraction has been announced in the official materials reviewed. Sony’s 2025 Corporate Report characterizes the January CES showcase as a proof of concept and says the company is “experimenting how best to bring such an exciting franchise into the physical world through LBE and merchandising.” That indicates exploration of location-based entertainment, not a confirmed launch. How the experience used sound, touch and scent
The display was only one part of the concept. Sony presented the experience as a combination of interactive game content and multiple sensory effects. Guy Wilday, VP Interactive Technology at Sony Pictures Entertainment, described the approach in Sony’s executive transcript: “We’re completely immersing you with audio. We’ve got haptics, we’re giving visitors a mimic controller, we’ve got smell.”
An unnamed visitor in Sony’s CES booth transcript said, “Everything felt real, like you were actually in this game.” The comment is an attendee’s reaction to the demonstration, not a measure of public reception or commercial performance.

What Sony’s reported figures say about the franchise
Sony Group Corporation’s 2025 Corporate Report gives context for the franchise’s reach, but these are company-reported figures rather than independent measurements:
- More than 37 million cumulative copies sold for the franchise.
- Over 300 Game of the Year awards for The Last of Us Part II.
- Nearly 37 million average viewers per episode for season two of The Last of Us, which the report says premiered in April 2025.
The report does not give attendance, cost or commercial-performance figures for the CES installation.

How to play the source game instead
The Last of Us Part I is separately available for PS5 and PC. PlayStation’s official game page describes the game and its features, including compatible PS5 DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers. This retail game is a separate way to experience the source material: buying it, owning a PS5 or using a standard DualSense controller does not grant access to Sony’s CES installation. The CES transcript identifies its controller as a Mimic Controller, a distinct part of the proof of concept.
