The Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer sets up a Peter Parker whose private life has been erased while his work as Spider-Man has become full-time. Sony’s official premise makes that divide the story’s central tension: Peter remembers the people who no longer remember him, and his growing isolation coincides with a change in his extraordinary senses.
What the trailer establishes about Peter Parker
The trailer’s clearest revelation is not simply that Peter is keeping his identity secret. After Doctor Strange’s spell at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the world has forgotten Peter Parker. Sony says he sacrificed his relationships with MJ and Ned to protect them. Peter still remembers them, leaving him separated from the people who mattered most. Sony’s official trailer listing, published June 17, 2026, repeats the line: “The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.” Watch Sony’s verified trailer.
Sony’s official film FAQ places the story four years after No Way Home. In that time, Peter has thrown himself into being Spider-Man full-time. The studio describes him as scrappy and broke, and says his senses are evolving as loss and isolation reshape him. Read together, those details point to a new status quo built around a difficult trade-off: Peter is more committed to protecting others, but less connected to anyone who can help him carry the burden.
Why Peter’s new life is more than a secret identity
Peter’s anonymity once helped him separate his ordinary life from his superhero work. Now the separation has become total. MJ and Ned do not remember him, and Peter cannot simply resume the friendships he gave up without confronting the spell’s consequences. The premise turns an old Spider-Man problem—balancing personal obligations with responsibility—into a more isolating one: the people he wants to protect cannot recognize the person making that choice.

Sony says MJ is back in New York after graduating from MIT. She has no memory of Peter, though she suspects something is missing from her life. Ned also has no memory of Peter; he is trying to uncover Spider-Man’s identity and has made a Spidey Tracker app. Those details create dramatic irony: Peter knows the history behind their questions, while MJ and Ned are trying to understand a gap they cannot name.
What Peter’s evolving senses and the unseen threat mean
Sony connects Peter’s uncontrolled change to a powerful threat that no one can see. Its FAQ also says his extraordinary senses are evolving. The official framing links those developments, but it does not establish every detail of the transformation or identify the threat beyond the studio’s description. The safe takeaway is that Peter’s changing abilities are part of the danger he faces, not a confirmed explanation of exactly what he will become.

That uncertainty matters because the trailer’s premise supports several possible plot directions, but possibility is not confirmation. Sony’s public materials do not require viewers to identify the unseen threat or predict how Peter’s transformation will resolve. Treat theories about the villain or the full scope of his new abilities as speculation unless the film or studio confirms them.
How the supporting characters complicate Peter’s status quo
MJ and Ned: familiar people, unfamiliar relationships
MJ and Ned remain part of Peter’s world, but not as friends who can simply pick up where they left off. Their separate investigations—MJ’s sense that something is missing and Ned’s effort to identify Spider-Man—put them near the truth without restoring their memories of Peter.

The Punisher: a volatile ally
Sony describes Frank Castle, the Punisher, as a highly lethal vigilante whose methods put him at odds with Spider-Man. Their hostility develops into a volatile ally relationship. That makes him a potential partner in confronting danger, but not an uncomplicated source of support.
Jean Grey, Bruce Banner and Damage Control
Sony’s FAQ identifies Sadie Sink’s character as Jean Grey, a character with psychic abilities. It describes Bruce Banner as an academic and professor who becomes a resource for Peter before losing control as Savage Hulk. William “Bill” Metzger, director of Damage Control, is identified as a hidden source of conflict. These are official character descriptions; they do not, on their own, settle how each character’s story will unfold.
