Soap2Day shut down in 2023. Websites now using the Soap2Day name, including “mirror” or “unblocked” domains, have not been verified as continuations of the original service and should be treated as unofficial clones. For safer viewing, use established services that identify their catalogs, licensing model and access requirements.
What happened to Soap2Day?
The original Soap2Day service closed in 2023. Current domains using its branding are not confirmed successors, so entering payment details, installing a “player” or disabling security tools on one of those sites carries avoidable risk. The alternatives below are recognizable services with clearly stated access models.
Best legal alternatives at a glance
| Service | What it offers | What you need to know |
|---|---|---|
| Tubi | Free, ad-supported movies and TV | No subscription or credit card required; ads fund the service |
| The Roku Channel | Free shows, movies, Roku Originals and live TV | Also includes premium subscriptions and time-limited premium access |
| Plex | Free on-demand titles and live channels | Some live-TV functions may require Plex Pass, depending on feature and account |
| Hoopla | Library-based movies, television, books, comics, music and more | Requires a participating library card; catalogs vary by library |
| JustWatch | Searches where movies and shows are legally available | It is a discovery guide, not a streaming service; the linked edition is for the United States |
Free streaming services
Tubi: the simplest replacement for ad-supported viewing
Tubi labels its service “Free Movies & TV,” “No Subscription Required” and “Always Free. 100% Legal.” Its homepage uses “Start Watching” and “Browse Titles” buttons, with optional “Sign In,” “Register” and “Register Free” controls.
Tubi says you do not need a credit card: advertising pays for the service. It lists support for Android, iOS, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Xfinity X1, Xbox, Samsung Smart TVs, Sony Smart TVs, PlayStation and web browsers. Tubi also says its official service should not ask you to install a VPN, redirect you to malicious sites or display malware warnings; that is the company’s own statement, not an independent security certification. Use the official domain rather than a similarly named mirror.

The Roku Channel: free programming plus premium categories
The Roku Channel combines free movies and TV, Roku Originals, live channels and premium subscriptions. Its current navigation includes “Home,” “Browse,” “Live TV,” “Save List” and “Search.” A title card can show “Play” and “More Details.”
Check the access label before starting a film. The service includes a “Free on Premium (Limited Time)” section, so a title’s appearance in the catalog does not mean it is permanently free. Live programming is organized under “Live TV,” “On Now” and “Leaving Soon,” and schedules can change.

Plex: broad catalog, but verify live-TV access
Plex currently promotes “600+ channels” of free live TV and “over 50,000 free titles” on demand, with controls such as “Tune In Free,” “Watch Free TV” and “Stream Free Now.” It supports phones, tablets, smart TVs, gaming consoles and PCs, and an “Add to Favorites” option can keep preferred channels near the top of the guide.
Plex’s page also says that free-TV streaming is a premium feature requiring a Plex Pass. Because that statement conflicts with the page’s free-service marketing, do not assume every live-TV function is free: check the specific device, account state and feature before relying on it. Plex offers “Sign in” and “Create your free account,” and says no credit card is required for account creation.

Library access instead of ad-supported streaming
Hoopla: borrow digital movies with a library card
Hoopla requires a card from a participating library. Its catalog includes movies, television, audiobooks, eBooks, comics, magazines and music, with “Movies,” “Television” and “BingePasses” among its content labels.
Titles can be streamed immediately, and Hoopla says most can also be downloaded to a phone or tablet. Availability is controlled by each library: “Titles may vary based on library catalog,” so another patron may see a different selection. Use “GET STARTED” or “Log In” on the homepage, then check your library’s borrowing rules.

Find a specific movie legally
JustWatch: search across legitimate providers
JustWatch’s U.S. site helps locate where a movie or show is legally available. It is a guide rather than a host for the video itself. Current navigation includes “All,” “Catalog,” “Movies” and “TV shows.”
Use the Watchbar filters for “Release year,” “Genres,” “Price,” “Rating,” “Production country,” “Runtime” and “Age rating,” then select “Reset” to clear them. Results can include free options such as “Free TV,” as well as rentals, purchases and subscriptions. The page currently reports 203,800 titles and identifies version 3.13.0; both the count and availability labels are dynamic. If you are outside the United States, switch to the appropriate country edition because licensing differs by region.

How to choose an alternative
- Want an immediate free stream? Start with Tubi, then check The Roku Channel’s access label for the title.
- Want live channels? Compare Tubi, The Roku Channel and Plex, but verify whether the Plex feature you need is covered by your account.
- Have a library card? Search Hoopla before paying; your library’s catalog determines what you can borrow.
- Know the exact title? Use JustWatch to compare legal free, rental, purchase and subscription options in your country.
- See a Soap2Day-branded mirror? Leave the site instead of installing software, entering card details or bypassing browser warnings.
Safer streaming habits
- Type the service’s verified domain directly or use its official app-store listing.
- Expect advertising on services that describe themselves as free; unexpected payment requests are a warning sign.
- Do not install browser extensions, media players or “codec” updates offered by a streaming page.
- Keep your browser, operating system and security software updated.
- Remember that a catalog listing can change by country, device, account and date.
The Bottom Line
Soap2Day itself is gone, and its current-name mirrors are not verified successors. Tubi, The Roku Channel, Plex, Hoopla and JustWatch offer more accountable ways to find free or lower-cost viewing, provided you check each service’s region, advertising, library and premium-access limits.
