The title brings together two separate Saturday Night Live Weekend Update references, nearly two years apart. “Manhunt for CEO Assassin” is the title of a December 7, 2024 clip about the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson; the Pete Hegseth joke was reported from the September 26, 2026 Season 52 premiere. They were not part of the same episode.
The 2024 “Manhunt for CEO Assassin” clip
SNL’s official listing dates “Weekend Update: Manhunt for CEO Assassin, President Biden Pardons Son Hunter” to December 7, 2024. It describes the manhunt for the person who killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The clip’s title is sometimes shortened to “Manhunt for CEO Assassin,” but it belongs to the 2024 Weekend Update, not the 2026 premiere. Watch the official SNL clip on YouTube.
The Pete Hegseth joke in the 2026 premiere
Weekend Update addressed Hegseth during the Season 52 premiere on September 26, 2026. TV Insider’s September 27 account connects the segment to remarks Hegseth made at a Texas A&M commencement. In footage shown during Weekend Update, Hegseth said, “No more social experiments. Just training. No more trannies. Just training.” Colin Jost responded, “Why were you even thinking about that, bud?” Those are Hegseth’s quoted remarks and Jost’s response, respectively, as reported by TV Insider.
The premiere was hosted by Jalen Brunson. NBCUniversal’s schedule lists KATSEYE as that night’s musical guest. Its next listed episode, on October 3, paired host Dakota Johnson with musical guest Turnstile; that is a different installment from the September 26 Hegseth segment. NBCUniversal’s schedule lists both dates, and The Boston Globe’s October 4 recap covers the October 3 show.
